A friend is a mirror.

“Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful” Proverbs 27:6

The Bible tells us, “Faithful are the wounds of a friend.” A friend will tell us when our breath stinks, when we have something in our nose, or when we have lipstick on our teeth. They will caution us when the guy we’re dating is the wrong guy for us, when we’re headed down the wrong path, and when we need to stop and take a moment to enjoy the fruit of our labor. They are a mirror.

The second part of that verse says the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. This is someone who is always telling you how good you are and how they don’t see anything wrong with you at all. They don’t see any areas where you need to improve. Somethings wrong with that picture. Sometimes people want a relationship so bad that they don’t want to tell the person anything that could potentially ruin the relationship, but being not being honest can ruin the relationship. No one wins when you hold back truth that could help someone grow.

The great thing about mirrors is not only do they reveal areas we need to improve in, but also areas we are beautiful in. Like a mirror, a real friend is honest. It’s a blessing when you have a friend that knows how to be truthful, patient with your growth, while they encourage you along the way. If you have this kind person in your life, treasure them and never take them for granted.

Examine yourself to see if you’ve been truthful with the people in your life, and ask yourself how well you’ve received hearing the truth about yourself.

Prayer: Father God, help me to be like a mirror in my relationship with others and help me allow others to be a mirror to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. I need to check myself on receiving truth from those who are friends…family. But also I need to make friends who will be my mirror.

  2. I am thankful for those in my life who has stepped up to letting me know when I was messing up on life. I am grateful in my addiction they helped me see. I am grateful God used that to help convict my heart and he delivered me from that life , saved my marriage, help be be a better mom. I know I could have not gotten so broken over it to where I’m still healing from those wounds. I pray to be better to people in my life and I pray to be able to take the constructive criticism better. Understanding that God will use even what’s meant for evil for good so if they are trying to hurt me it’s okay God will use it to refine me. Thank you for this devotional today.

Thank You for helping to turn my mirror around when people show me that they don’t want or need a mirror! Some people are not receptive to a mirror Lord? But I present it anyway! When they can’t look in that mirror, give me the strength to turn it around and peay for them! In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
