Appreciate the Death of Jesus More

“And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:8

In my personal life, I try to stay away from horror films, and I don’t enjoy watching movies where the hero dies. I find this has filtered over into my spiritual life where I have focused more on the joy of Jesus’ resurrection and unintentionally ignored the pain of His death. But on today, the Holy Spirit is teaching me that He wants His people to learn to appreciate the death of Jesus more.

Jesus could have numbed Himself from all of the pain He felt as the Roman soldiers ripped through His flesh while beating Him almost to the point of death. He could have become angry at everyone and sent a legion of angels to destroy them all, but instead, He said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” He could have died after only six minutes on the cross. Instead, He allowed Himself to suffer for six grueling hours. He allowed Himself to feel every lash, every thorn crushing down into His skull, and the nails piercing through. He even felt the wood rubbing against his torn skin as He carried it on His shoulders. He allowed Himself to be mocked and spit on. He allowed His flesh to be broken and beaten until He was unrecognizable. He allowed it all. And why? Because He loves you, and He loves me. To Him, we were worth it. His death removed our sin and our shame and made it possible for all to be saved.

On this Good Friday, I want you to pause and think of the death of Jesus. Don’t move so quickly to celebrating His resurrection. Let your heart accept His death and the wonderful significance of it.

Prayer: Jesus, you didn’t have to do it, but I’m so glad you did. Thank you for your sacrifice for me. When I feel unworthy, when I feel unforgivable, when I feel ashamed and like no one loves me, help me to remember your sacrifice. I receive your saving grace all over again. I receive your love and forgiveness. Thank you that I can have a relationship with the Father because of you. Help me tell others about you more and more. With all my heart, I thank you Lord.

      1. Jesus was there through the old testament looking on the suffering of the prophets and the people of the world especially the Israelites. Jesus did what no man could have done, so to God be the glory. Sometimes I cried when I remember the suffering Jesus Christ our brother went through. I am so glad He is seated at the right hand of God making intercession for us and one day to take the little book and open the seals. Jah guide.

  7. I really appreciate tye way God orchestrate us where we need to be and when, while in prayer a couple of nights ago concerning things I’ve been enduring while walking with the Lord, and that has not been feeling good to me,I heard in my spirit this question “how do you know when you truly love God? And so I pondered in that and then holy spirit beganned to minister to me,and he gave the revealing of Peter death that would glorify God, and then answered the question for me and it was simply this, “When it hurts” that’s how you know Jesus went through all the hurt and pain because God so loved the world, thank you.
