The name of the Lord is a strong tower.

“But there was a strong tower within the city, and all the men and women and all the leaders of the city fled to it and shut themselves in, and they went up to the roof of the tower. And Abimelech came to the tower and fought against it and drew near to the door of the tower to burn it with fire. And a certain woman threw an upper millstone on Abimelech’s head and crushed his skull” Judges 9:52,56, English Standard Version.

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” Proverbs 18:10

“…and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” Ephesians 2:6

The name of the Lord is a strong tower. As with towers in Biblical times, people of the city would run to the strong rock tower when enemies came upon them and find safety. In the story of Ambimelech, he encamped against the city of Thebez and captured it, but Scripture tells us, the people and leaders ran into the strong tower. They ran up to the roof of the tower. Then once on the roof, a woman threw a millstone down off the roof and hit the head of Ambimelech, crushing his skull.

When God cursed the devil, Scripture tells us in Genesis 3:15, He told him, “…and I will put enmity (open hostility) between you and the woman, And between your seed (offspring) and her Seed; He shall [fatally] bruise your head, And you shall [only] bruise His heel.” This is why we have a natural hatred for the devil. Our greatest spiritual weapon is the name of the Lord, which is His character and authority. Run into His name by trusting in His character and believing His authority. It’s time to look down at your adversary from your heavenly seat. Jesus is our rock; the Word made flesh. Use the Word of God. Let it be your millstone that you throw over to crush the head of your adversary and do great damage to the kingdom of darkness.

Prayer: Father, you are our mighty God. Your name is great and you are a strong tower for your people. By your grace, we will do what you say, and run into your name, by believing in the finished work of Christ that seats us in heavenly places. We trust and believe in your character and authority. From that place, we toss the millstone of your Word from that seat, and it does great damage to our adversary. We crush his plans and schemes from high above. Hallelujah. Thank you, Father, for giving us victory through Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
