“The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is safe” Proverbs 29:25, ESV.
One day I prayed to God, “If I’m going to fully do what you’ve called me to do, I’m going to need you to completely break off of me any hold people have on me. In order to be a prophet and speak to the nations or a teacher that teaches your uncompromising truth, God you’re going to have to totally remove from my mind being overly concerned about what others think.” It’s one of those prayers you pray once and never look back because you are confident He heard you.
As God’s people, we can’t have the kind of impact in this earth God wants us to have if we value other people’s opinion above God’s opinion. Too many pastors, teachers, laypersons, and parents are menpleasers, and the Holy Spirit is saying STOP IT. THAT’S ENOUGH! How the Lord feels and what His word has to say must take priority above everything else.
When God made Saul king over the people of Israel, He gave him specific instructions to utterly destroy the Amelakites for what they had done to the people of Israel. The people had ambushed God’s people as they came up from Egypt. So God ordered King Saul to carry out their punishment. He was to attack them and utterly destroy them, and all they have, sparing nothing. King Saul went out with his people and attacked, but he kept the king of the Amelakite’s alive and spared the livestock (see 1 Samuel 15). He partially obeyed the Lord because he feared the people more than he feared God. Partial obedience is disobedience. Consequently, he was stripped of his leadership position as king, and David was chosen and anointed to take his place.
We as people of God have to make a decision. We have to choose God or people. We can’t choose both. Choosing to please people rather than God can cost you everything. Don’t do it woman of God. Don’t do it church. We must be bold enough to say what God has called us to say and do what God has called us to do. If people don’t like it, that’s between them and God, but we must be obedient to the Lord.
Prayer: Father, I hear your voice and I know you’re talking straight to me. I ask that you please break off of me any hold people have on me. Completely destroy every stronghold in my mind that causes me to value man’s opinion above yours. I make a decision right now by faith that I’m going to please you. You’re my God. Not man. Help me preach your uncompromising truth and lift up Jesus. Set me free from people. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
