I will not sin with my lips.

“Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21

Years ago, I remember when my husband shared with me the word for the year. He called myself and the kids in the living room and said the Lord had given him a word that it would be a year of abundance. I received that word in my heart with joy. However, some months later, situations were coming at us left and right that made it feel like everything but a year of abundance. So in my anguish, I said out of my mouth, “This is a year of abundance alright; yeah, an abundance of stress!!!” As soon as those words left my mouth, things began to get worse for us. When Holy Spirit brough this to my attention, I immediately canceled those words and repented to God for sinning with my lips.

The Bible talks about Job and how God had allowed him to lose his health, his wealth, and his children, but Job never once sinned with his lips. He felt pain from the boils on his skin. He felt unbearable grief from his loss. He felt deeply depressed, and his friends didn’t get it at all. But he never released any words out of his mouth that made God look like He’s a liar.

My sister, I know the temptation is real to say some things out of hurt and anguish. I know, but I need you to resolve within yourself that you will not sin with your lips. You and I both are going to trust God to be faithful to His Word. This year may be a total nightmare for the world, but this is the year when God will take you higher in Him. Your heavenly Father is not a liar. He is true and faithful. He will do what He promised you in His perfect timing and in His perfect way.

Prayer: Father God, forgive me for any words I’ve released from my mouth in hurt and anguish. I cancel those words right now in the name of Jesus, and I speak what you have said. Father, you are true, and you are faithful. My trust is in you to do what you promised. This is a year of dreams for your people. This is a year of dreams for my family and me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.” Job 2:10

“When the LORD brought back the captivity of Zion, We were like those who dream.” Psalm 126

(Read Mark 4:18-20)

  1. I don’t usually sin in terms like the example given. (Not outloud or not as often as I do in other ways. Eg. I curse constantly in my head and words etc etc. I don’t rlly see this changing tbh. It’s too hard n I’ve got 99 other problems unfortunately)

  2. I believe and have seen where my works are produced first by my thoughts than by my tongue. Yes i have many more sins i need to put to rest with my old self, it starts in my mind. If i release negativity i manifest negativity. Today, i will speak only edifying Kingdom words. Releasing glory to Our Father! I will praise Him all the days of my life because i know He is good and He is faithful and Oh how He loves US ❤ Thank you Father! Great is your magnificent mercy and your love every morning, noon and night!

  4. Ouch!! I do say things that I have no business saying to others and my child at times. My realization of this sin is brought to light now. So now I repent of not so nice things I have told individuals, and ask The Lord to guide my tongue. To give Him the glory, honor, and praise when I want to complain. Father, to be more grateful, seeing You working things together for my good for Your purpose. Seeing how You are preparing me for the place You have prepared for me. Thank You, Father, for Your love, patience, and kindness that You love me enough that You don’t want to remain the same in my sin. But You’re refining me.🙌🙌🙌🙌
