Love waits.

“O God, you are my God; early will I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh longs for you in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water” Psalms 63:1, NKJV.

Early one morning, I stole away to pray. While sitting with the Lord, Holy Spirit brought a song to my remembrance that He gave me over 25 years ago. As I whispered it to myself, tears welled up in my eyes. It was the sweetest song and most beautiful memory:

In you I find such peace it’s so serene
Like a blanket so warm it covers me gently
In you I find such peace it’s so serene
Like a blanket so warm it covers me softly
In you I find peace and I can’t describe it
In you I find love and I can’t describe it
In you I find joy in its fullness and I can’t describe it
You’re in a league of your own
You’re in a league of your own
And there is no one like you

My sister, God will let you enjoy your life, your husband, your children, and your friendships. He will let you have fun at the ballgame and enjoy the event you’ve been planning for weeks. He will let you enjoy your successes and the pleasures of life as He sits by and waits. What is He patiently waiting for? He is waiting for you to realize that no matter how enjoyable people and pleasures are, there is a place in your soul that nothing and no one can satisfy the way He can. He is truly the Lover of our soul.

Saying a quick prayer, a quick thank you, Jesus, and a quick hallelujah just won’t do. We have to draw near to Him from a real place that acknowledges who He is and His position and authority in our lives—offering up our hearts for Him to fill like a hungry child lifting an empty bowl to her father. He will draw near to us and fill our spirit. He will cause us to remember who we are to Him and who we are in Him.

Prayer: Father, thank you for drawing me close to you by your Holy Spirit. Thank you for patiently waiting for me to see my need for you. I appreciate the love of my family and friends, but no one and nothing can satisfy my soul like you can. So, right now, I give you more than a quick prayer to get on with my day. I draw near to you, and you draw near to me. Satisfy my soul. Satisfy that inner longing in me. Fill my heart and give me a song to sing. Thank you, Father. I love you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
