People deserve the best in you.

“Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ…” Ephesians 4:15, Berean Literal Bible

The habit of Jesus was to steal away and get alone with the Father to pray. At first, I thought, yes, I can see how that was important for Jesus to do. He’s Jesus! How else was He going to perform all of those miracles? But the more I walk with the Lord, the more I understand the 100% human side of Jesus. He prayed a lot because He knew prayer was the secret to His ability to walk in love.

I can’t imagine being around the disciples who were constantly arguing, comparing, competing, asking dumb questions, and trying to tell Jesus what He was not going to do. Not to mention having to deal with the Pharisees and Sadducees. I would’ve said, Father, I want to go home–sounding like Bubba from Forest Gump. Instead, Jesus, ever so loving, stayed and put up with all of it and finished His assignment without fleshing out. How in the world?! I tell you, He was able to do it because of His strong prayer life.

Many times in my life, I have made excuses for my bad behavior. These excuses could be anything: I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I haven’t eaten yet, and my blood sugar is low. I’m on my cycle. I am pre-menopausal. I haven’t had my coffee. I don’t feel well. I didn’t have a father in my life until I was twelve. The sky is cloudy. My panties are uncomfortable. I have a headache. Any one of these would be my reason to get an attitude and mistreat someone. But the truth is, none of these gives us permission to act out and misbehave when we have Elohim, Almighty God and the maker of heaven and earth, living on the inside of us.

I believe we need to stop excusing our misbehavior and our mistreatment of people. We need to imitate Jesus and get alone with our Father, so He can love us. Then, we take that same love and give it away. When we get alone with God, He promises to give us the grace and strength we need to love like Him, show mercy like Him, and be led by Him. In our time with Him, He opens our eyes to see those in our lives with His eyes.

I have a dear friend that I love. I show my love for this friend by not talking with her until I have talked with the Lord first. She does the same with me, and honestly, it was her idea! I’ve seen how praying for her before talking with her affects my mood, my ability to love, and it blesses our relationship. It is so great that I have sought to apply this to every other relationship in my life. Only talking to you once I’ve talked with Jesus about you. Understand, my sister, people deserve the best in you, not the flesh in you.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for speaking to my heart. I receive your truth and strength to walk this out. Forgive me for any time I’ve made excuses for my misbehavior. I receive your love and your forgiveness. Now, help me, Lord, to draw close to you each morning so that I can receive all I need from you to be the great blessing you created me to be. I realize people deserve the best in me, not the flesh in me. Thank you for helping me do what I cannot do on my own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

    Timely word…
    I so needed this.
Just imagine that this was my prayer this morning.
To walk in the GOD type of LOVE. For GOD to create a clean and loving heart in me. For me to see the GOD in everyone and everything. The song of birds chirping, the clear blue skies, the fresh air….everything. To appreciate the marvellous works of the untreated creator πŸ™ŒπŸ™
