Taste and See

“Let the [spoken] word of Christ have its home within you [dwelling in your heart and mind—permeating every aspect of your being] as you teach [spiritual things] and admonish and train one another with all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God” Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬, Amplified.

I remember a time in my life when as soon as God would give me a word, I would quickly share it. I would get it and share, get it and share it and didn’t think anything was wrong with that until I became spiritually malnutritioned and ended up depressed, oppressed, suppressed, and every type of pressed you can imagine. The Lord had to teach me that His word is not only meant for others, but is given to me to be tasted and digested.

Walking into a kitchen with good smelling food cooking on the stove does not cause the nutrition that food carries to enter your body. It’s not until we sit down and taste of it and receive it into our bodies that it can provide the nutrients and satisfaction we need. We are of no benefit to ourselves or anyone else simply getting scriptures only to give them away. God wants us to taste and see how good His word is. He wants His word dwelling richly in our hearts. He wants us to sit with it, receive it and let it be good to us. Let it wash over our minds and gratify our deepest hunger, and then we can teach it and share what we’ve received.

You will share the word that God gives you with much more joy, conviction, and passion when you receive of it and digest it. There’s nothing like trying God for yourself and then going out and spreading the good news. Because He’s so good to you, your satisfaction in Him alone can cause someone to want to know Him.

Prayer: Father God, I hear you and I receive the words you are speaking to me right now. I act on this word right now, and choose not to quickly share it, but receive it in my heart, sit with it, digest it, and hear what you are wanting to get across to me. Help me take my time and digest your word in my heart so that it can strengthen me, nourish me and help me grow in you. In Jesus name, Amen.

  1. I dont agree.
What is needed is to ask God if the word we receive, should we ponder on it, for us to hold or should we share that good word and to who. We dont ever “give away the word” given to us by God, we share it and also should also keep it and ponder on it, thus receiving full insight for oursves and others.

  2. I agree. This devotional speaks to my heart. I will meditate on the word of God so my way will be prosperous and I could have good success with helping others see the Lord in and through me. Thank you. Blessings, Shalom and Agape 👀🙏🏽♥️📖🙌🏽

  3. Aaaaaaaamen! I had to learn this. Even when I refused to learn it time and time again, God allowed certain sometimes embarrassing situations to humble me. His Word would be and still is many times like fire shut up in my bones. His Word is like a hot potato at times that I feel like I have to toss it. It be so good, I be wanting to release it to others. God taught me to how to deal with the fire that gets shut up in my bones and becomes like a hot potato that want to release. He said to me journal what I am saying. As I journal what He says, I am able to release the fire I feel from the Word God is giving me. The Word begans to simmer and, I am able to receive more revelation.
The Lord also taught me that revelation in most cases should transform and do its work in me before it is released to others. It is then that it is released with power that changes the lives of others.

Still at times when the Fire burns, I have the temptation to deal with the fire by releasing a Word untimely or releasing a Word that was just meant for me. This devotional though is going to help keep me in check though. I’ve also learned from leaders in my life the importance of knowing by the Holy Spirit when to release a Word and knowing for whom the Word is meant (just me or others too). Now, I do much better.

Thank you sister! I will never forget this Word you’ve given. It is soooooo
good! I gleaned so much from it. It is a timely Word especially for the assignment that I will be fulfilling soon.

Your writing has gone to new levels by the way. Your anointing has increased.

  4. Correction: *God taught me how to deal with the fire that gets shut up in my bones and becomes like a hot potato that I want to release. He said to me journal what I am saying. 5. Today’s devotion convict and bless me at the same time.

It’s soo on point! As soon I get it I’m not just ready to share it, I copy, paste and push send immediately.

Although it may bless others, I don’t always sit with it first. Sometimes I hear or even feel the need to read it again but time doesn’t allow it and the day is done.

Today I’m being intentionally selfish. For my holistic wellbeing..

Thank you for your obedience. May God continue to bless, protect and provide for you and yours.

  8. This devotional is very true my sister in Christ, I sometimes wait to share because I’m afraid to have people point me out in shame, and even offend others. I personally want to know him through the word as I struggle to do so.
