The Lord Has a Sense of Humor

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength” Proverbs 17:22, NLT.

I’ll never forget when my husband and I attended a music ministry event when we were dating. Different artists came up to sing, perform poetry and rap. It was an awesome time in God. Towards the end of the event, an altar call was given and I, along with several others, answered the altar call. I got down on my knees, closed my eyes and began to worship my heavenly Father. I told Him how great He is and how blessed I am to know Him. While I was bowed down, I felt a piece of cloth hovering over my head. I thought to myself, “Well, that’s different”, but I just kept worshiping God. I didn’t care. So as I’m bowed down with my face to the floor, my eyes closed, in serious worship mode, I feel the cloth move from over my head towards the back of my neck. By this time I’m wondering, what is this? So I open my eyes and gradually begin to bring my head up, and I suddenly notice I am under a woman’s dress! I moved back so fast and sat down…completely traumatized! The woman was totally unaware! While I was bowed down in worship, she must have stepped back, causing her dress to cover my head! Oh my! Everyone on the front row started to laugh and all I could think was “Lord, I was worshiping You! Why You didn’t tell me I was under a woman’s dress?”

I guess He truly does cover me.

The Lord has a great sense of humor. He brings joy and laughter into our lives when we least expect it. No matter what you are going through, receive His joy and a merry heart today. Let it be good medicine for your body and soul!

Prayer: Father God, I love Your wonderful sense of humor! You bring joy and laughter into my life, and I thank You. Fill me with the joy of the Holy Ghost. I receive Your joy in my heart by faith. Lift every burden that is weighing me down. You are good and You are in control. I love You! Thank You for Your joy! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

  6. OMG DOTK! Hilarious, my stomach hurts. I couldn’t imagine how you felt. Much needed for me on today. Thank you for sharing. God has used this to restore joy to me this morning. I have not worked since September, behind in all my bills, got evicted from my place this morning and as write this reply, I am sitting in my car in parking lot with all my belongings, BUT GOD!

I will serve Him and bless Him all my living days on this side of heaven. He is my provider, He is my Shepherd, He is my God! Glory🙌🙌🙌

    Have a fantastic remaining day.

    1. Audrey, I love your attitude of gratitude and your posture of praise even in the midst of this trial. Know that He is right there in that car with you and He WILL work everything out for your good. I recently lost my job as well so I can understand some of what you are going through. Let’s hold on to God’s promises like the one found in Isaiah 41:10 “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” I will be praying for you my sister. God’s got you!

      1. Yes, AUDREY; praise Him in the storm!!!
Sometimes God calms the storm; & sometimes, He calms His child in the midst of the storm.
& as Narda pointed to Isaiah 41:10– TRUST HIS PROMISES & REST IN HIM. Your attitude of grateful praise speaks volumes. God hears & He knows. Jehovah Jireh is right there with you & WILL provide ALL your needs.
        BELIEVE IT!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾
        I know personally.
I lost my husband to cancer in Oct. & I lost both of his incomes. I’m retired with health issues & live on fixed income from Social Security, which now doesn’t even cover the mortgage; because it went up $130 in Dec.
        BUT GOD!!!
That scripture & Phillipians 4:6-8 & Proverbs 3:5-6 have sustained me through so many trials & storms. (Other scriptures also; but especially those.) I’ll be praying for you. Focus on God & the positive things.
LORD, WE DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO, BUT OUR EYES 👀 ARE ON YOU!!!!! (Jehoshaphat’s 🙏🏾 prayer, 2 Chronicles 20:12b)
& YES, LAUGHTER IS GREAT MEDICINE.
Abundant blessings to you & all DOTK.
Our God is not only ABLE; He is also willing. 😍

      1. Bless you Patiently Waiting🙌
His love will never fail us, that’s what I am learning in this season.

Thank you for your encouraging words.
        Bless you to LIFE🙌

  7. He makes me laugh, that makes me strong because laughter is so healing to the soul. Just “tune in” to Him, and ” tune out” the distractions that normally fill our mind, TV being the #1 thief and worry and fear. It was only when I did these things, Jesus started making me laugh.😁😁😂😂

  8. Not even 10 minutes ago I was looking out my kitchen window thinking…”when did I grow so serious? LORD help me to laugh and be joyous again. Help me to laugh more”. Then I sat down to eat and read DOTK and this wonderful “only GOD” moment shows up today! Haha. Coincidence? I think not! Thanks for sharing and Bless you all! :). (I am still giggling about your story)

  9. At first I didn’t know that our Heavenly Father had a sense of humor. I couldn’t explain when I was hurting, having a not so good day. Something would happen or I’d hear something funny and I would laugh out loud. Not knowing that it was my Father letting me know that He has my back.

  10. Thank you so much. I always said the Lord has a great sense of humor when it came to me. I’m glad others are aware of how he wants our heart to be merry. I love the Lord my God who always knows the time and season to everything. Blessing!

    1. Again….I.just want to continue thanking you and blessing me thru these devotionals. They are truly coming from the heart of God. You arr a special.chosen vessel of homor.

  11. Lord Jesus, I thank you for laugher. Life can be so very stressful and seemingly unfair. There’s not a lot to smile about much less laugh about. But then God shows up and just bring humor into your day so unexpectedly. Thank you for the oh so gentle touch of laughter the remind me of your ever presence grace.

  12. Before he was a Christian my husband and I used to argue about Jesus. At that time he hung up the Christmas lights on our house and had a length of rope left over. So he draped it over a bush. The image he made, without thought, was a Christian fish. God truly has a sense of humour! Of course He does, he created it!
