Always Sisters, Always Friends

“By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35

I grew up with a sister, and even though we would argue all of the time, we quickly made up because my mother didn’t tolerate strife in her home. Mom would always make us hug, apologize and say, “I love you”, and then we were back to playing again like nothing happened.

This is what true sisterhood looked like to me. It was ingrained in my mind that even though sisters fought they always loved and forgave each other no matter what because they were sisters. So when I became older and God blessed me with my sisters in Christ, I just knew that if anything went down, and if there were ever any misunderstandings, we would always hug, apologize, say “I love you” and we would go back to playing again just as in my childhood. And when this didn’t happen with a friendship I treasure, I was devastated.

What we don’t realize is that we are all uniquely made by God and none of us are replaceable, no matter how much we try to make the other person feel like they are.

The truth is, we live in God’s house and He is our heavenly Father. And if my mother didn’t tolerate strife in her home, I know our Father doesn’t tolerate it either. He commands that we love one another as He has loved us. He doesn’t suggest it or say to only love when it’s convenient. He commands it. Our sisterly love is all we have to show this world that we are truly His disciples.

Prayer: Yes, Lord. Thank You for speaking to my heart. Forgive me for not loving my sister like I should. I ask that You show me how to love her the way You have loved me. Give me greater understanding of her and how she feels. I pray You bring a spirit of love and unity in my relationships that nothing can break. I need You Lord to heal my wounds and any wounds I’ve caused. Help me learn to love my sisters in a way that glorifies You. And if I see my sisters at odds, help me Lord to be a peacemaker and not an idle bystander. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  2. thank you for that testimony. I can definately relate to this. I pray that we as women would love our sisters and be quit to forgive any infractions that may cause a rift in our relationships. Lets not be catty towards each other and stop the name calling, remember how damaging words are their edges continue to cut deep especially if they are not recalled with the love of forgiveness. “We are our sisterskeeper”
