A Real Relationship

“God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.” 1 Corinthians 1:30, New Living Translation

At the age of twelve, while attending a church revival, I surrendered my life to the Lord. I didn’t understand anything about how to be a “good” Christian, or how to pray, or worship, or even how to study my Bible. All I knew was I had encountered a love that I had never known and a power that I had never seen, and I wanted more. I wanted to get to know Him better. Even at that young age, I had a feeling He already knew me all too well.

As each day turned into months and months turned into years, God gradually helped me understand how real my relationship with Him can be. It was no longer my mother or father’s relationship with the Lord that I wanted, but I was enjoying my own. And it is that real relationship that has seen me through many, many trials and have made me who I am today.

A real relationship with God begins with a quality decision to let Him into your heart and into your life. Your issues and problems don’t scare Him. Your fears and anxiety does not move Him. You are His and He is yours. And from the moment He entered into your life, the Spirit of God rolled up His sleeves and went to work in changing you from the inside out. His ultimate goal is for you to look like Jesus on the inside and to behave like Jesus on the outside.

Prayer: Father God, I believe you sent your Son to die on the cross for my sins. I ask that you come into my heart and save me. I repent. Change me. Fill me. Help me get to know you better and teach me your ways. I want a real relationship with you. In Jesus name, Amen.
