A sign of true spiritual maturity is in our ability to love.

“And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing” 1 Corinthians 13:2, KJV.

When my husband and I got married, I thought I came to the marriage a spiritual giant that could teach him so much about the Lord. Since I had been saved longer than him, I was planning to show him how to win spiritual battles in prayer, how to quote scriptures and how to storm the gates of heaven and get God to move. I was so impressed with myself and my “spiritual growth”.

…until

I kept coming across situations where I had to love people. I kept facing situations where I needed to be patient…kind…believe the best…and forgive. All of my faith and all of the Bible knowledge I had didn’t mean anything at all because I didn’t know how to love the way God had instructed me to. He helped me to locate where I really was spiritually, and little by little, the Lord began to show me through His Word and through my husband’s example, how to love myself and others the way He loves. He is still showing me.

My sister, it doesn’t matter how powerful we can pray if we don’t know how to love people in a way that pleases God. It doesn’t matter how many Bible verses we can quote verbatim if we don’t know how to treat people right. A sign of true spiritual maturity is in our ability to love like Jesus. Let’s open our hearts to God’s outpour of love today, and let His love flow through us to everyone we meet. Let’s really grow up into Christ in all things!

Prayer: Father God, thank you for speaking directly to my heart. I need you to teach me how to love. Plant your seed of love in my heart and cause it to grow and produce visible results in my life. I want to grow spiritually. I desperately want to learn your ways of doing things. Help me to be more like you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

(Read Ephesians 4:15)

  1. God teaches me how to love like you and remove selfishness. Consume me with your discipline and character of your son.

  2. Father God thank you for this devotion through my sister continue to teach me how to be more like you continue the love that I have for others despite their ways God I continue to love them as you love us despite them not loving back because I know that I have a Father that loves Beyond the people continue to teach me your way and all that I do in Jesus name Amen 🙏🏽 Thank you Sis Kesha ❤️

  3. This prophetic devotional hits hard. Sometimes I think I am loving but I notice I am hard on myself and others. I never really experienced true love in my life, love has been short lived, even by my family. In saying this, I continually ask the Lord to teach me what love is as He is love. I ask for wisdom and strength to love myself that I may too love others. Thank you. Blessings, Shalom and Agape 👀🙏🏽❤️📖🙏🙌🏽

  4. Amen!!! Yes, “The Love Law!” To love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. The second is to love our neighbors ourselves. LOVE is how we show that we are disciples of Jesus Christ, by the LOVE we show for one another. “LOVE” is what attracts/draws and is compelling!! I had to limit my time with some individuals because of the LOVE shown it was thought a weakness, and some said something was wrong with my mind because of the LOVE shown. In many relationships I shared that The Bible say that we can get angry, but sin not. These people was so good telling me that I have to forgive them 70×7, that’s why I became distant. It all was intentional. I shared with some how David wasn’t scared of Saul that’s why David ran. The Holy Spirit is maturing me even more as well as I’m learning a healthier LOVE for me and them. He is perfecting those things that concerns me!!! I still have a long ways to go, but I thank God I’m not where I use to be. I’m doing the best I can in the season I’m in now. I Know the more I go to God to confess my faults, He is FAITHFUL and JUST to forgive and cleanse me of all my unrighteousness. 🙌🙌🙌
    ❤️❤️❤️

Sister Kesha, you are so right. “GOD IS LOVE,” and apart from Him we can do nothing. Oh how we need Him!!! 💕💐💜💕💐💜💕💐💜💕💐💜💕💐💜

  5. Jesus is definitely trying to teach me to love other people. The message about loving others has been preached on Sunday. Lately I’ve been consumed with what I think others think about me instead of loving others no matter what they say or think about me. It is God who i serve and His approval is all it matters.
