An Appetite for God

“Blessed [joyful, nourished by God’s goodness] are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness [those who actively seek right standing with God], for they will be [completely] satisfied” Matthew 5:6, Amplified Bible.

When my children become sick, the first thing they lose is their appetite. I could sit in front of them their favorite meal, and they will refuse it. So, I let them rest until they feel better. When they come to me saying, “I’m ready to eat now,” I know they are healed.

Have you lost your appetite for the things of God? Do you no longer desire to read His Word or be in His presence? Is there no great desire to be around His people or do the spiritual things you used to? It could be the cares of life have distracted you or that your heart is hurting. Has anything damaged your heart and mind? Has anything polluted your faith? Have you just come through a terrible experience? There’s no judgment or condemnation here—only sincere love. The goal is to help you examine where you are spiritually.

If you are hurting, forgive those who have offended you and receive God’s immense love. Receive His healing hand over your heart and let Him reach into every hurting place. If you are distracted, ask God to refocus and reignite you.

A deep longing for the things of God can’t be manufactured. God gives us a thirst and hunger for Him, and we can come to Him saying, God, I’m ready to eat now! I want more of you now! I’m ready to win souls now, and fulfill your divine purpose for my life now!

Prayer: Thank you, Lord. I need you to heal me and refocus me. Touch my heart and heal every pain. Every disappointment. Heal me and give me my appetite back. Cause me to thirst for you like never before. Help me, God. I forgive everyone and everything. I receive a greater desire for you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  2. Maybe sometimes we lose our appetite for the things of God because we become offended with Him. This may be tbrough disappointment in unfulfilled dreams or questioning why He has allowed pain in our lives. Only reconnection with Him can heal that though. Jesus, help us!

  3. First giving you thanks, Heavenly Father. Thanking you for rerouting my GPS system, putting me back on track in the right direction towards you. Sometime God, I felt like giving up, from hurt, disappointment, and betrayal from people I thought I could trust in my life. I allowed my focus to be taking off of you. God I have repented for my sins. I know only You can heal this pain and anger that I let consume my most inner thoughts. I have been weary, weary about Your word God. It has been a chore. God You have shown me through Your great faithfulness the important of daily reading of my Bible. So, even though I didn’t want to do it, I got up every morning, even in my most depressed and exhausted times, opened my Bible, read, and checked it off the list. And then I did the same thing the next day, and the next day, and the next day, until one day,I HAD HAD ENOUGH. It was time to make a change. I was once staring at my Bible. It was early in the morning, really to early for any human being to be up. I was tired from being up half the night for not feeling well and stressed.I happened to be reading through JOB, and it struck me. JOB was talking about GOD and said, ” I have treasured the words of God mouth more than my portion of food. WOW!!!!! A LIGHT BULB CAME ON IN MY HEAD. I love JOB because he is brought to such depths of despair, but his faith is never shaken because it was never wrapped up in his blessings and comforts of his life. JOB faith was firm through all of his trails because he knew GOD, and he knew GOD’S WORD. And he didn’t just know it; he CRAVED it more than ” his portion of food.” I asked GOD to give me a hunger and thrist for his word and love like JOB’S , a craving. I WANT TO CRAVE IT MORE THAN MY PORTION OF FOOD. 🙌🏽 PRAISE GOD🙌🏽 HALLELUJAH 🙌🏽 I NEED YOU GOD EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE, I LIVE YOU, I NEED YOU, I CRAVE AND THIRST FOR YOU.🙌🏽❤️🙏🏽❤️🙌🏽❤️🙏🏽❤️ IN JESUS NAME, AMEN 🙌🏽
