Forgetting those things that are behind!

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.” Philippians 3:13

When the Bible says “forgetting” those things which are behind, it doesn’t mean to erase out of memory. In means to habitually “lose out of mind” or to let go of. As in not holding on to it, but losing it and letting it go. Forgetting is an active term. It means whenever something negative from our past comes to mind, we don’t give it three seconds of our attention. We don’t give it time to barge in and plant itself in our minds. This can also include telling those who enjoy bringing up the past that you’ve decided to forget those things in the past so you can reach for what God has placed before you.

The word “before” in this text comes from the Greek word “emprosthen” which means in front of. You will find this same word in Matthew 5:16 where Jesus says to let your light so shine before men, in front of men, right in their presence and sight. What God has for you is not far off in the distance as you might suppose. It is right in front of you!

My sister, God has placed His perfect desires and plans right before you, right in your presence and right in front of your sight, and it is His will that you see and seize all He has for you. He has rewards, opportunities, blessings, divine connections, godly success and more. He will enrich your life and make you a blessing. He will help you to let go of those things in your past and reach for what He has placed in front of you!

Prayer: Father God, thank you for speaking directly to my heart. Help me to not dwell on the past, but to reach for what’s You’ve so graciously placed right in front of me. I receive the focus of Christ. Help me, Father, to employ everything I am towards moving forward and seizing what you have placed right in front of me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

    *Philippians 3:10-14

    10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

    11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

    12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

    13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

    14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

    So, I press forward to the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

    Sister Kesha, what a word because I have been listening to this song that was given me.
