After service today, I got into the car to pick up some food for the evening Super Bowl game.
I thanked God for the balmy, sunny 50ish-degree weather; this is Michigan–it’s a running joke that if you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes, and it’ll change!
Along the way, I passed a cemetery. I glanced over and said to myself, “I got a lot of living to do before I end up there.” Then it hit me–two words: unfulfilled purpose. God knows how to speak to us and get a message through when we’re able and willing to get quiet to hear Him.
“Wow, that’s a message!” I said as though a light bulb had appeared in front of me.
So here’s the message that was given to me: God has gifted each of us with purpose. He desires that we learn our purpose and use it for His glory. Perhaps you don’t know exactly what it is. I can’t tell you. I’m seeking to know more about mine as well. But I do know the best place to look is in His Word and to ask Him. 1 Peter 2:9 says, ” But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…”
One of our purposes is to glorify and praise Him, to tell others of His goodness and what He’s done for us and through us. I know God saved me so that others would be saved. His Word confirms that.
And I also know that every day that I walk in faith, trusting Him and obeying Him, I’m getting closer to fulfilling the special reason I’m still here, despite the car accidents, despite being carjacked and threatened with a gun and many other things He’s delivered me through!
When it’s my time to leave here, there will be purpose in that dash between my birth and death dates. My sister, let’s decide to live ON purpose FOR a purpose. Let’s enjoy the season God has given us. Jesus said, ” I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (see John 10:10, KJV).
We got a whole lot of living to do before we get there.

Yes! I agree , We have to live on purpose now! Sometimes I still need clarity . When I know God has brought me out of the darkness into the light. And now I get to be an inspiration to others . But often I want to do more , explore other gifts and talents that he has given me.

My husband and I are nearing the season of retirement. This has prompted us to consider what to do with the time we will have to use. Interestingly enough – both of us listed similar ways to use our God-given talents. So Iβm actually more enthusiastic about our next season of life then where we are now. The message of fulfilling our purpose NOW will fuel our current actions with the long-term plans in mind.
Thank you for this Word of Encouragement.
Amen! Thank you, Sister June for the reminder. God bless.
Absolutely in Jesus name Amen π
WOW,confirmation, confirmation, confirmation π π, thank Heavenly Father, thank you
Amen, Sister! I am a recovering alcoholic/addict and I now work in the recovery field. Recently, I used to feel I had no purpose so I felt useless to the world which led me down the path of alcoholism and addiction. Realizing God does have a purpose for me saved my life. Thank you so much for your message and confirmation to keep reminding my clients that God has a purpose for them, too. Have a blessed day.
