Generosity

“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, β€˜It is more blessed to give than to receive.’’ Acts 20:35

I believe we should be givers by nature; God’s nature. I’ve experienced the most joy when I’ve given someone else my time, my efforts, my love, my help, my money, etc. However, I wasn’t always like that. I remember my greedy years when I only cared about myself. The only thing that mattered was that “I” had enough and that “I” had everything “I” needed. The Lord quickly taught me that this type of character generated from the root of pride, and He showed me that the only letter that stands in the center of the word pride is “I”.

As I became older, I realized that this type of attitude didn’t please the Lord. Jesus was a generous giver. He gave His best to people, even when He didn’t have a place to lay His head at night. How amazingly humble is that? My desire was to be like Jesus, and so I prayed and asked the Lord to create a generous heart within me. Soon after that prayer, He instilled generosity in me and He placed “giving” opportunities before me to test my request.

I now truly love to feel the fullness of God’s joy through giving. It’s not something I can explain, it’s something you have to experience for yourself. One thing I’ve learned about giving is that you can never out-give God. His compensation for your generosity is matchless! He promises to bless a cheerful giver. I encourage you to look for giving opportunities and make generosity your second nature.

Challenge: I challenge you to think more about the needs of others and less about your needs. Seek those whom you can help and do it with the correct motive, and watch God manifest Himself in your life in unthinkable ways.

  1. Thank you for the devotion it is good to give than to receive and you cannot beat God in giving.

  2. TY DOTK – This devotion makes me smile because you speak truth. And yes, There is joy in giving. We can also take it one step further – getting our bills paid on time πŸ™‚ The Word says to owe no man. Pay up. I remember early on in my marriage we were taught about paying tithes and we were & are committed to paying them. My spouse hit a slow season in his work and we had about $100 in our account and very little in the freezer and it seemed like many days left in the month. And we continued to faithfully pay our tithes. Well about that same time I noticed our freezer situation my hubbys employers had their company picnic. The employers provided everything free: deep-put BBQ, drinks, dessert, games for the children. We went, we ate and had a good time. At the end as we were cleaning up and about to head home an employee friend who had done the BBQng – out of the blue – called my hubby over and gave him a big bundle of BBQ meat that was still wrapped in the burlap from the pit. Wow. No one knew about our freezer situation, only God. I tell you we had meat for our table for a long time after that picnic. Our finances got better before the meat ran out. God is faithful. He will provide. We just need to step out and do wants right and pleasing in his sight. Give what you owe, be responsible for your debts, yet give joyously also of your time/$$$/efforts in helping others, give to be a blessing. And you in turn may be blessed – as always – right on time – in His perfect timing. Yes, we can’t out give the Lord. Trust Him. TY DOT-K
