Give yourself permission to shine for God’s glory.

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

Growing up, I was a very shy kid. I remember the first time I stood in front of my class to talk, my knees buckled and everyone laughed. The first time I sung in front of my mother and uncle, she said with excitement in her voice, Ohhhhhhhh, she can sing! I started to cry and it took years for me to open up and sing again. The first time I gave a speech in front of my church, I felt nervous and cried. Being out front, with all eyes on me, caused me to feel very afraid. But when I surrendered my life to Jesus, I surrendered to Him all fears and insecurities. I grow bolder and more confident every time I accept the challenges of His Holy Spirit.

My sister, maybe you hate the spotlight. Maybe you turn down promotion because you are afraid of everyone looking to you as a leader. Maybe you have dealt with fear of walking in your purpose because it requires you to speak up and stand out. I’m here to tell you, the same Holy Spirit that empowers me daily and gives me courage and confidence when I feel afraid, is the same Holy Spirit who will empower you at every turn. People will see God’s Spirit at work in you and will be amazed by His light. Speak to the little girl within you. Give her permission to shine for God’s glory. Give her permission to walk in the plan and purpose the Lord has assigned for her life! He has been with her since she took her first breath, and the Lord is with you now helping you to shine for Him!

Prayer: Father God, thank you for loving me with a perfect love that drives out all fear. You did not give me a spirit of fear or timidity, but of power, love and a sound mind. Help me to walk courageously and confidently in your plan and purpose. Help me stay reminded that no matter how afraid I feel, those are only feelings. It’s not who I am. I am your daughter and you’ve got my back. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

(Read Isaiah 60:1-3)

  5. Amen! This word is definitely for me. I was asked by the First Lady if my church to bring a message for a upcoming Sunday service. She said that God put me on her heart. At first I was not only shocked but I was humbled and honored that God chose me. But then I began to fear. I felt just like the little girl you described. I began to doubt my calling and considered declining the opportunity. After reading this, I know God is speaking to me and reminding me that he has been preparing me for this very moment. It’s time to arise! ( the scriptures were perfect for me too). He gave me a vision that the scriptures described where I saw a light like a beacon on a hill. There were arrows coming from all directions and they all pointed towards that light.
I’m a quiet person who prefers to work behind the scenes and stay in the background. But now I suppose it’s time to let go off the my past self and press forward so that God can use my for His purpose to bring souls to Him. Amen! TGBTG!
