“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11, NIV.
Jeremiah 29:11 is one of the most quoted verses in the Bible, but the setting behind it is often forgotten.
This promise was written to people who had just lost everything.
Israel had been taken into exile. Their homes were gone. Their nation was broken. They were living in a foreign land wondering if God had abandoned them.
And right there, in the middle of their confusion, God spoke:
“I know the plans I have for you.”
Not had.
Not used to have.
Have.
God was reminding them that their circumstances had changed, but His purpose had not.
Sometimes we assume that when life falls apart, God’s plan must have fallen apart too. But Scripture shows the opposite. Even in seasons that feel uncertain, God is still working.
What feels like a setback to us is often part of a bigger story that we simply can’t see yet.
Reflection: Have you ever assumed a difficult season meant God’s plan had been interrupted?
Prayer: Father, thank You that Your plans for my life do not disappear when circumstances change. Help me trust that even when I cannot see what You are doing, You are still working for my good and shaping a future filled with hope. In Jesus name, Amen.
Faith in Action: Think about one area of your life that feels uncertain right now. Instead of assuming the story is off track, place that situation back in God’s hands today and thank Him for the future He is still working out.
