God wants to spend time with you.

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock” Matthew 7:24, ESV.

Years ago, God led me to pray and confess key scriptures over my children daily. I didn’t know why it was on me so heavy to pray over them more than ever, but I’m so glad I obeyed the Lord because months later, I discovered why He wanted me built up in prayer and in His Word.

In March 2009, our four-month-old son was admitted into intensive care for digestive and thyroid issues. As I followed the ambulance to the children’s hospital, I prayed, “Lord, not my baby! The devil can’t have my baby! Your Word says that the children you have given me are for signs and wonders (see Isaiah 8:18). You said in your Word that you would pour out your Spirit upon my seed and your blessing upon my offspring (see Isaiah 44:3). You said my seed would be mighty in the earth (see Psalm 112:2). Every scripture that I had been confessing over the past months was coming up into my heart like ammunition into a gun, and I was shooting them out with tears streaming down my face. God’s healing power touched my son’s body, and after three weeks in the hospital, he was completely healed! Praise God!

My sister, there is a reason your Father wants to spend time with you in prayer. It is not just because He loves to hear the sound of your voice. There is an enemy whose primary goal is to steal, kill and destroy you and all that pertains to you (see John 10:10). It is in prayer that He downloads to your spirit what to pray for and what scriptures to confess so that you will be prepared. It is very difficult to build a house in the midst of a storm. Build early. Seek Him early while things are going well. I truly believe God doesn’t enjoy seeing His daughters completely caught off guard by the attacks of the enemy. He wants to lead us into all truth by His Spirit and show us things to come (see John 16:13), but we need to draw near to Him (see James 4:8).

Prayer: Father, I draw close to you now and ask that you show me what you want me to do. Reveal to me what you want me to focus my prayers on. Direct me to the scriptures you want me to confess. Prepare me for the storms that are sure to come. Show me how to build my prayer life and word life, not in a spirit of fear but in faith and confidence in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

(Read Matthew 7:23-25; John 16:13; Psalm 63:1)

(Scriptures to pray over children: Isaiah 8:18; Isaiah 44:2-4; Isaiah 49:25; Psalms 112:2; Psalms 118:17)

    1. Thank you so very much, I really needed these scriptures. This have been my life day and night keeping my 3 sons covered in prayer. No matter what I have been through God has responded not on my time but his time, for that I’m grateful.
