He is gracious toward you when you least deserve it.

“Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” Hebrews 4:14-16, NKJV.

When my daughter was younger, she came to me after nap-time was over and said “Mommy I want a treat, but I’m not going to ask because I know I don’t deserve it. I didn’t take a nap.” As her mother, I couldn’t help myself. I pulled out the treat bin and let her grab whatever she wanted.

If that’s my heart as a natural mother, imagine our Father’s. There is something about God’s love that is shown towards us when we feel we least deserve it. His grace is unmerited favor that is undeserved. What frustrates many people is when they see God bless someone they feel least deserved it. In their eyes the person wasn’t qualified enough, smart enough, saved enough, strong enough or good enough to receive the promotion, the position, or the blessing. Within our own merit, we don’t deserve anything we receive from God, but because of Jesus, He pours out His grace!

Whenever we make a mistake, for some it may be difficult to ask God for anything. We can feel as though we have no right to pray, but yet God teaches us differently. He tells us to come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. He didn’t just say that we are to do this if we have lived spotless lives. We come by the authority of Jesus who has forgiven us and washed us clean. Receive His grace and mercy today!

Prayer: Father, I don’t deserve it, but I thank You for being so gracious toward me. Even when I mess up, You are there to show Your love and kindness toward me. When I feel I deserve it least, You pour Your love on me. This causes me to want to serve You more. I come boldly to Your throne, and I receive your grace and mercy to help me today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
