Getting Unstuck

“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead” Philippians 3:13, Amplified.

Picture a car crash that has taken place. Broken glass is everywhere. Air bags have deployed. It’s a mess. Imagine the crash is a negative situation you encountered in life, in which you barely made it out alive. You’re standing there on the side of the road looking at what has happened and you feel completely devastated. Do you have that image in your mind? Good.

Maybe you have moved forward in a lot of areas in your life, but there still remains an area where you are stuck. The enemy would love for you to stay at that crash site for years to come. Understand that God’s promises are in front of you, not behind you. If God has promised you restoration, you’ll receive it as you move forward. If He promised reconciliation of a broken relationship, you’ll receive it as you move forward. What does that look like for us as believers? It’s receiving God’s strength to love and forgive like the crash never happened.

That’s how you get unstuck. You say goodbye to the past and you move forward, trusting that God’s promises healing and restoration are ahead of you, not behind you.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for speaking directly to my heart. Help me God, I’m stuck. I’m trying to move forward, but I need your help. Help me say goodbye to the situation and move forward in faith. As I obey you, I trust that you will heal my heart, mind and emotions from all the damage done. I forgive everyone and I move forward by faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  2. Praising God for today’s devotion and reaching out to my sister’s to pray that I have strength to leave this car crash of a marriage and continue forward in God. Whether he restores our marriage or not, I want to walk away with God by my side on the path he has for me. I don’t want to be stuck anymore.

  4. You can move forward from the initial crash, yes. In close relationships, marriage, it is hard when there is a series of crashes that keep reoccurring. God can walk you through absolutely but it isn’t as easy as the devotional sounds. Reoccurring betrayal and abuse can destroy you. God expects us to not only forgive but to confront the sin and set boundaries to allow ourselves room to heal enough to move forward from the crashes.

    1. Thank you for sharing that. Sometimes I feel ashamed for net being able to leave this marriage that keeps crashing and breaking my heart and those of the ones who mean the most (my daughters). I need to be strong but am not on my own. I pray for God’s strength to help me, but somehow I am not able to just walk through knowing He will heal me. I pray for that strength every day. God give me the strength to not allow this marriage to continue with the lies and unfaithfulness that overshadow the love that was, and look to the future with hope and anticipation of walking openly in His love and mercy.

        2. Shell, God states in His Word that He allows for divorce when there is unfaithfulness and when an unbelieving spouse does not want to be in the relationship anymore. I personally believe that God does not expect us to be destroyed by abuse either. That is not a Father’s heart for His daughter. If boundaries and consequences do not bring some sanity to the marriage, if he keeps violating and abusing, you must get help. Separation for sure to give time to see if husband chooses change and if not, divorce may need to be considered for your health sake.

  5. Praise you Father for your grace of total forgiveness. I look forward in your love knowing you are with me. I πŸ’˜ you My Jesus
