I am your driver. Trust Me.

“Then you will find favor and high regard in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.…” Proverbs 3:4-6, Berean Study Bible.

I remember during a trip to South Africa, my husband and I were invited to go on a game drive (or a “safari”). Before we left, our driver gave us specific instructions; do not put your legs or arms outside of the vehicle, do not get out of the vehicle, do not make any loud noises, no sudden movements, etc. We were looking for the Big 5, which were the Buffalo, Rhino, Elephant, Lion, and Leopard, and as we came behind a beautiful family of elephants, someone did something we were told not to do, and an elephant came charging at us. I screamed for the driver to Go, go, go!! He immediately drove the jeep backwards at full speed. We waited quietly before going any further. Eventually, it was safe to go on, and that became one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. We saw all of the animals except the Lion and made it back to the resort alive and able to tell the story because we trusted the driver and did what he said.

God reminded me of that experience when I discovered I have issues with control. He told me, “It’s dangerous out there, and you are in rough terrain like you’ve never been in before. It is important that you trust Me. I am with you and I need you to listen to Me and follow My instructions. I am your Lord, and I am your driver. If you trust Me, I will get you through this, and you will live to tell the story.”

My sister, this isn’t a word only for me. This is for all of us who are being challenged in every area. Some of us are wanting to jump out of God’s will. Some of us are wanting to handle situations our way. Some of us have issues with control and don’t know when to let go. This is when its important to trust Him and do what He says. He is our driver, He is good, and He sees the end from the beginning. He knows where He’s taking us. We are safe in Him.

Prayer: Father, thank you for speaking to my heart. I receive your words, and I choose right now to trust you. You are good, and you see the end from the beginning. Help me to stay in your will and follow your written and spoken instructions. Help me relinquish total control to you and not lean to my own understanding. I want to arrive safely to your destiny for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“He who trusts in himself is a fool, but one who walks in wisdom will be safe.” Proverbs 28:26

“Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will do it.” Psalm 37:5

  5. Thank you so much for this beautiful message… When I was 9 & 10 years old our family (Mom, Dad, brother & me) moved from Boston to California, 6 months later we moved back to Boston and 6 months later we moved back to California (long story as to ‘why’….I’ll spare you the details. LOL). All 3 times we drove the 3,000 miles in an old 1958 Chevy. My dad was always at the wheel, my mom was the navigator and my brother and I were in the back seat. As a kid, I never remember questioning where we were going, when to get in the car, when to get out, or why we were going, wondering if the car was in good enough shape or if we needed gas…Dad took care of all those details. And Mom took care of packing the cooler with food and beverages, so we never gave that a second thought either. My brother and I simply trusted our dad to do the driving, to get us there safely…we trusted our mom to navigate and to make sure we were fed, clothed, etc. And your story reminded me of all this. Oh to trust our Heavenly Father as our Driver, the Holy Spirit as our Navigator and to simply enjoy the ride with Jesus, the SON, our Savior! Lord, may it be so for me and each of us today!!

  6. Amen, may we learn to let Jesus take the wheel! Father help us to resist the temptation to be in control. We are in no greater hands than when we are in yours. Help us to know and discern the difference in you directing and guiding us from the enemy and our flesh trying to detour us from your good plans. Blessings!
