I will not sin with my lips.

“Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21

Years ago, I remember when my husband shared with me the word for the year. He called us all in the living room and said the Lord had given him a word that it would be a year of abundance. I received that word in my heart with joy. However, some months later, situations were coming at us left and right that made it feel like everything but a year of abundance. So in my anguish, I said out of my mouth, “This is a year of abundance alright; yeah, an abundance of stress.” As soon as those words left my mouth, things began to get worse for us. When I noticed this, I immediately canceled those words and repented to God for sinning with my lips. The Bible talks about Job and how God had allowed him to lose his health, his wealth, and his children, but Job never once sinned with his lips. He felt pain from the boils on his skin. He felt unbearable grief from his loss. He felt deeply depressed, and his friends didn’t get it at all. But he never released any words out of his mouth that made God look like He’s a liar.

So I took that lesson and stored it away. A few years went by, and then the Lord did what He always does. He gave my husband a prophetic word for the year. My husband gathered the kids and me together on New Years Day and shared that this year would be a Year of Dreams. Again, I received those words with a heart full of joy and expectation of what my Father would do. Then a global pandemic happened. Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd’s death happened. Worldwide protests happened. The canceling of the DOTK tour happened. Deaths in our family happened. And once again, I was met with the same temptation to say what I felt instead of what I believed. While feeling hurt and angry, my husband came to me saying, “Baby, this is still a year of dreams.” I wanted to say out of my mouth, no, this is a year of nightmares, but the Holy Spirit reminded me of what happened the last time. I said to myself, “I will not sin with my lips. I will not sin with my lips. I will not. I will stay in faith.”

My sister, I know the temptation is real to say some things out of hurt and anguish. I know, but I need you to resolve within yourself that you will not sin with your lips. You and I both are going to trust God to be faithful to His Word. This year may be a nightmare for the world, but this is still a year of dreams for God’s precious sons and daughters. God is not a liar. He is true and faithful. He will do what He promised you.

Prayer: Father God, forgive me for any words I’ve released from my mouth in hurt and anguish. I cancel those words right now in the name of Jesus, and I speak what you have said. Father, you are true, and you are faithful. My trust is in you to do what you promised. This is a year of dreams for your people. This is a year of dreams for my family and me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.” Job 2:10

“When the LORD brought back the captivity of Zion, We were like those who dream.” Psalm 126

  1. Father God, thank You this testimony. We all needed to hear this and I am so grateful. As it is said, what we feel is over our heads, it is still under God’s feet. In Jesus’name, Amen.🙏🏾

  2. LORD THANK YOU FOR THIS, Just yesterday my daughter and myself was reflecting on the power of the tongue. I was sharing with her how I tend to speak out of my 👄 mouth, the circumstances that are in front of me because they are so tangible, I can’t seem to SEE nothing else.
Only to be reminded that it’s not about what I see, but ONLY about what God says. I had to be reminded that FAITH is not what I see, but what I believe.
Clearly, I need to begin to speak those things as if they are so, not letting my circumstances carry me to and fro dictating my life, but standing on every word of God, allowing Him to carry me all the way❣️

  3. I will not sin with my lips Father God. I trust you to strengthen me and all areas of my life keep the Faith I have in you Christ Jesus ❤

  6. Praise God Almighty! He knows the thoughts in my mind and how I struggle to not strangle with my tongue! Glory be to God for this on time word!

  7. This word came on time but I was a little too late. My husband and I had gotten into a terrible fight last night and in his anger, he kept shouting about divorce.
Today, there was no repentance on his lips. In fact, he left home and avoided me all day. Tonight as he was going to bed I told him that I also wanted a divorce.
I immediately repented after reading the Lord’s word.
If one sins against you, let the Lord deal with that person. Don’t react in anger…

  8. Thank you so much for this !! Lord I repent for any words of doubt I’ve spoken & say You are a promise keeper & faithful!! God spoke to me through others at the beginning of this year to dream again & with circumstances & of course everything with Covid & racial injustices my faith has wavered to the point of not really believing that for me. But I receive & speak that word to dream again 🙌🏽
