Jesus, the Bread of Life

“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst” John 6:35, ESV.

Imagine Jesus teaching in the synagogue. Picture yourself seated in the room. He announces to all that He Himself is the bread of life. The Jews begin to murmur among themselves, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know?” They couldn’t receive or even fathom in their minds Jesus being the bread of life. They scoffed at the mere thought.

Now, come to our present day. We find that the mind and hearts of people hasn’t changed. They grapple with this truth more than any other. How can Jesus be the bread of life? How can Jesus be all that I need to live? How can Jesus be the only solution to every problem I will ever face? Since they don’t understand, they don’t approach the Bible, which contains the very Word of God, as though it is truly the bread we need to live. They approach His Word like it’s any other book, just as the Jews approached Jesus as though He was any other man.

But we know within the pages of our Bibles is bread that gives life to those who are hungry. We know that when we approach the Word of God from the right place with humble hungry hearts, we will always receive the strength and comfort we need. We know we will receive His life that He so desperately wants to give.

Prayer: Father God, I’m so hungry for You. Fill me. Help me to never forget how vital your Word is to my daily life. My soul can only be strengthened by You and satisfied in You. As I open my Bible today, flood me with light, comfort my soul, and let Your anointed Word lift every burden and destroy every yoke that’s had me bound. Revive me Lord, and use me to revive others. Strengthen me by Your Word, and use me to strengthen others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

(Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
