Learning to Trust Again

β€œThere is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear…” 1 John 4:18, NKJV.

I never understood why people avoided close relationships until I encountered hurt in my own life. And just when I thought I was totally free and ready to let people in again, fear would creep in and say, “You know that person is going to leave you when things get tough, so don’t you get too close”, “don’t become so invested”, “and whatever you do, don’t trust…anyone”. I tell you, fear is a terrible friend. It will do anything to keep us in bondage.

In my life, I found myself having to relearn how to trust again. The Holy Spirit is a great friend. He will sit with us like you would next to a person that is driving for the first time after a tragic accident. He will walk with us like you would next to a person that is relearning how to use their legs. He is so patient with our progress and recovery.

Not only this, but He helps us remember what He has spoken over our lives. Maybe the Lord has told you that you will be a blessing to people all over the world and you will change the lives of many up close and personal. Maybe that woman seems so different than the woman you are today. But don’t worry. God will do what He does best. He will transform your life! You will be the woman He’s called you to be, my sister. Not the hurt woman, not the fearful woman, not the angry or bitter woman, but the free woman in Christ!

Challenge: Everyday, choose to do one thing that you’re afraid of that relates to close relationships, even if it is as small as inviting a friend out for dinner. No matter if the person can attend or not, the action alone moves you forward to trusting again.

Prayer: Father God, I thank You that I’m not alone in having to relearn trust. Thank You that there are sisters all over this world who understand exactly what we all go through. Don’t let us change into someone we’re not. Help us fulfill our full potential. Drive out the fear. Free us from emotional bondage. Reveal to us who we are in Christ and help us understand the true meaning of Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. So true how a relationship that has shipwrecked can cause fear of being hurt again. But the biggest lie of such an encounter is that we think we protect ourselves by building walls around us. This is such a sad and terrible decision, through such a lie we can miss the perfect match for us! In learning to trust Jesus and to truly love Him with your whole heart, fear has to go. Perfect love drives out fear. In allowing this we get restoration and deliverance of fear. When mister right appears, we don’t have to fear, for Jesus has already then filled that empty vacuum and only He alone can fill that need. First lean and rely on Him, and truly love Him, then all relationships can be restored because you do not lean on the arm of flesh but on the One Who truly loves you and has given His life for you!

  11. Praises To my Awesome Savior Jesus. Trust is a major factor in receiving God’s direction for our life. I had major setbacks because of trust. Because of past hurts, I had to take a deeper look on who hurt me and was it right or wrong. The point iam driving at is this. God never ever hurt us. He is love’ How can he? He can’t do do that ever. Its when we take our eyes off of God and start trusting people who have no relationship with God whatsoever. We are open and the enemy comes in.Iam reminded what God says in his word. Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the Lord with all of your heart. And lean not on your understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him , And He shall direct your paths. I now realized to keep trusting and not doubt God no matter what. I’ve learn through the years who really loved me. God is with me through it all. The Good the bad etc. Iam in a Good place. And I thank my Savior Jesus. Hallelujah. ….
