Let God shine through you.

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10, NKJV

Are you consumed with thoughts about your life, the pursuit of your goals, the fixing of your problems, that you rarely consider the needs of others? If you answered “yes”, then you are not alone. Our society has grown increasingly self-absorbed, to where our minds are consumed with our own life, rather than with what matters most to God.

What matters to God is that we do the works that we were created to do. What works? Good works like sharing the Gospel, giving to someone in need, going to visit someone that is sick in the hospital, remembering the widows and orphans, calling to check on a friend or loved one, etc. People are blessed by our thoughtfulness. This is the kind of selfless ministry that goes unnoticed by the masses, but God takes notice. He instructs us to let our light shine so that people can see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven (see Matthew 5:16). Let God shine through you. Let Him be good to someone through you. Let Him heal through you and show His love and kindness through you. Take your mind off of you and focus on doing the works you were created to do.

Prayer: Father God, I pray You help me become consumed with what matters most to You. Work through me to bless others. Help me learn how to be thoughtful and rich in good works. Take my mind away from my own life and circumstances, and help me focus on being a light for You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

  1. Hallelujah Thank you Father God because you have given me the strength to keep encouraging the sick and to keep speaking life into my Family and Friend’s And people around and the midst of all the problems around me I continue to give you praise and glory So Thank you God keep working with me to do the will of God Amen

    1. Thank you for this devotion and reminder that we are often so consumed with our own plans that we neglect the simple things in life that give God glory. I would, however, like to raise the point that the pursuit of ones goals can also be part of doing the good works God created you for. People can sometimes pursue things for the wrong reasons or forget about God’s original plan, but that does not negate the fact that becoming a doctor, dancer, missionary or chef could be part of the good works God has ordained for you. We give God glory when we look at the beauty of God’s creation because it is His workmanship. The sun is doing what it was created to do – rise, set, shine, provide heat and light, etc. Similarly, I believe that God intends for us to help one another and give Him glory by pursuing the work He has designed us for on earth. Someone could be out feeding the poor but still be in disobedience because they refuse to pursue the engineering degree God has called them to. That is also part of God’s workmanship for their lives.
