My sister, don’t let your sadness cause you to be disobedient.

“For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.” 2 Corinthians 7:10, NKJV

One day I noticed my children fighting over their toys, so I stepped in to correct their behavior by temporarily taking their toys away. Oh, they cried and cried. One of them even said they would die if they couldn’t have their toys back. I then gave them the instruction to prepare for bed and put on their pajamas. One immediately got up and did what I asked, while the other continued to cry and explode with grief and sadness. I told him, “Don’t let your sadness cause you to be disobedient. There’s a difference between good sorrow and bad sorrow.” Immediately the Lord began to talk to me about my response to His correction and the responses of His children.

My sister, let’s not allow our anger over what was temporarily taken away, to cause us to refuse to move forward and obey what the Lord is telling us to do. Let’s respond properly with humility, and we’ll see healing and restoration in our lives. When we respond properly to His correction, we will see His salvation.

We all deal with the consequences of our wrong choices, but how we respond is of utmost importance. May the Lord help us all to be like my first son, who, although he felt sad over what he’d done and what was taken away, he jumped up and obeyed.

Prayer: Father God, forgive me if I’ve responded wrong to your correction. I humble myself right now. Teach me to respond properly when I have to deal with the consequences of my wrong choices. Teach me to move forward and not backward. I know you love me, and even when I make a mistake, you are good, and you’re already thinking of ways to restore me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  2. I liked that devotion, but my sadness is a different kind of sadness and I guess it could also cause me to be disobedient if I’m not thinking right and I’m not focusing on the right things. Maybe that’s the problem.
(Asking for prayer if you can.. God knows) Thank-you.
