Never stop praying.

“Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Here, the Apostle Paul was writing to the church in Thessalonica, a prominent city in Macedonia, which is modern-day Greece. He had traveled to this city and made disciples. And now here he was writing to them, fully aware of the hostile environment in which these new followers of Christ lived. False teachers were on the rise. Attacks on the church were intense, and every attempt to return to see these new Christians was hindered by Satan.

Does this sound familiar? Yes, it does. We are seeing the same hostility, the rise of false teachers, attacks on God’s people, and roadblocks and delays in getting the Gospel to those who need it most. As with the Thessalonians, the Lord is encouraging us with the same wisdom He gave through Paul. Pray without ceasing. Pray at all times is how the Good News Translation puts it. Be unceasing and persistent in prayer, says the Amplified Bible. Never stop praying says the New Living Translation. Same wisdom shared four different ways so we can get the point.

The goal of prayer is not for all of our problems to miraculously go away, but for God’s divine plan and purpose to be fulfilled in the earth, even in the face of hostility, uprisings, and turmoil.

Never stop praying.

Prayer: Yes, Father, we hear you. We sense the urgency of prayer, and we yield to your will to pray on an ongoing basis with fervency and persistence. The times we’re living in are as intense as they were in the past. The wisdom then was to pray without ceasing, and we receive that same wisdom now. Holy Spirit lead us and show us where you want us to focus our prayers. Be greatly glorified in the earth, Father. We trust you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  5. Amen. Never stop praying is a great word especially for today, we need to stay connected to God as much as possible and that is through prayer and faith. Jesus is on his way back and times are good to get even more perilous.

  6. Thank you for this devotional…The timing is so perfect. The theme for our church this year is centered on prayer….WHEN WE PRAY….GOD MOVES. God is calling us to PAUSE and spend time before Him in prayer….and watch what happens!!!!!
