One thing is needful.

“And Jesus answered and said to her, β€œMartha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her” Luke 10:41-42, NKJV.

My sister, imagine with me that we go to the market together. I pick up a bag of rice and tell you, this is what we’re going to buy and cook. When you come into my kitchen, we open the rice, and while you’re pouring it into the pot, I go and grab some eggs, some sugar, some flour, some milk and I put it all in the pot. What will your response be? As much as you love me as your sister in Christ, you will say, Sis, what are you doing? All this rice needs is water.

In life, oftentimes, we complicate things by thinking that we need more than what God is requiring right now. If Jesus is the Bread of Life, which He is. If He’s the Fountain of Life, which He is, all we need is Jesus right now. He’s our Bread and our Water. He’s the one who satisfies us, nourishes us, and refreshes us. We don’t have to add anything to Him. So, when Jesus is speaking to Martha about the many things she was troubled and full of worry about, He tells her Mary had chosen what was needful. She had chosen the good part. She was simply sitting at the feet of Jesus, receiving from Him and being blessed by His company.

Jesus did not harshly rebuke Martha and He is not harshly getting on you for trying to carry the weight and responsibilities of you and everyone else too. He is, however, helping you understand one thing is needful right now. Sitting at His feet. Putting yourself in position to hear and receive from your loving Lord and Savior.

“Jesus replied to them, “I am the Bread of Life. The one who comes to Me will never be hungry, and the one who believes in Me [as Savior] will never be thirsty [for that one will be sustained spiritually]” John 6:35, Amplified.
