Our Eye-Opening God

“And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.” Isaiah 29:18

Whenever it feels like all hope is lost, it’s a lie from the devil. Our eyes can sometimes remain clouded and veiled by our human thoughts, words, and actions. When we think and believe we see an outcome or a concluded end to a situation or circumstance, we are actually not seeing.

Hagar, thinking she was all alone, concluded the end of the matter; her son Ishmael was going to die, and there was nothing left to be said and done. God never wrote that script and was with her even on that journey. God opened her eyes, and she saw for the first time and understood that her path was pre-planned. No matter how sudden, upsetting, rough or hard it looked, God was leading her towards that hard path but with a water provision in store and ahead (see Genesis 21:14-19).

Elisha’s servant saw an ambush of enemy troops, but when Elisha prayed to God to open his eyes, he saw the hillside was filled with horses and chariots of fire (see 2 Kings 6:14-17).

Abraham also was tested and almost took his son’s life. He couldn’t see the ram caught in the thicket until his eyes were opened, and “…he looked up and saw…” (see Genesis 22:13).
Whatever path or terrain we find ourselves in, let us ask the Lord to open our spiritual eyes to “look up and see” what our physical eyes can’t see due to the cloud of physical distress or discomfort.

For if God can plan ahead for our salvation through His Son Jesus, nothing in our lives can catch our God off guard. Only God knows our end even from the beginning, and He’s factored in all we would need along the way. We are never alone, even when we think or see we are.
