The Lump

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)

Almost 15 years ago, I had to take my work health check-up. While in the room, the doctor noticed a lump in my elbow bend. He didn’t know what it was, so he scheduled an ultrasound test to be taken in two weeks time. He looked a bit concerned.

Needless to say, I was terrified, I was young and thought I was immortal as young people often do. During the testing, the radiologist scanned the lump in all angles and murmured to himself. I had no idea what he was concluding. My heart was already in my throat. What he then said to me was that he too had no idea what the lump was. He said it looked like a gel pad that had enlarged and thus could be totally harmless, but it could be something else too. He scheduled an appointment for me to go to a local hospital to have a small surgery done. I got up, got my papers from the check-in and started to walk towards the front door. Right when my foot touched the pavement, I said out loud: “No! In Jesus name, there is nothing wrong with my elbow! I will not believe this news! I’m not going to receive this, in Jesus name!” And I went on with my life, thinking nothing of it.

A few weeks later, I was at the hospital getting ready for the operation. The surgeon comes in to check the situation. He feels and pokes around at the bend of my elbow. He checks the papers again and then asks me, “Just how big was the lump?” I told him that it was the size of an egg at the time of the ultrasound. He said, “But there’s only a pea sized lump now. I need to consult this with another surgeon. Just a moment.” I laid on the hospital bed reading a book and waited for an hour until he came back. He didn’t want to do the operation as the elbow is such a complicated place and the lump was so small. He was afraid that he would do more harm than good and decided to leave the lump as is. I got up, grabbed my bag and drove home. Thanking God the whole way! Praise God! To this day, I have no idea what it was, but it has not reoccurred.

As God’s people, we just cannot accept bad news and bad reports spoken over us (see Proverbs 26:2). We need to accept what the Bible says about us, that Jesus has died for our sickness and disease. And that by His stripes we were healed (see Isaiah 53:5;  1 Peter 2:24).

Prayer: Father God, I thank You that You gave us Your Son to die for our sins and even more, that we can be healed because He suffered. I pray for my sisters who are struggling with sickness and disease. Please let the healing manifest in their lives right now. Let Your Holy Spirit quicken their healing process and let all the physical ailments just dissolve in Your presence! I pray for my sisters who struggle with cancer, depression, anxiety, genetic disorders, obesity, skin problems, cartilage issues, fertility issues, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s, eye problems, memory loss, fungus or parasites. In Jesus name, disease get out! You have NO right to torment any of God’s people’s bodies! The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob Himself has said that we ARE healed by the stripes of His Son, Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior. So get going sickness! Leave without a trace and NEVER come back again. I declare this in Jesus’ mighty and precious name. Amen.

    1. Sustatia,

I have dealt with eating disorders in my life, as well as pain issues in more recent years. The best way I have overcome has been through support groups with other Christian women and praying in agreement. In my current pain struggles, I just joined a health and wellness group started by a friend and I can’t tell you what a difference it’s making already. We all support each other in a weekly meeting and also report our struggles and victories in a private group page through facebook.

Accountability, honesty, encouragement and an ongoing awareness of helpful tools/info are also important factors. Check out various churches in your area and ask if they have a group that could help. Celebrate Recovery could be a good one, too, but you may want to do a step study for the more personalized setting and you may not have as much exposure the variety of helpful tools/info as in a group focused specifically on developing a lifestyle of healthy eating, etc. There are also some good online programs, like with Daniel and Tana Amen, if you can hang with the online support versus the face-to-face support.

If you can’t find something that’s already set up which works for you, pray for God to bring people across your path who have similar needs and who you can find support and connection with in these things. He loves you dearly, Sustatia, and is faithful and will complete the good work He has begun in you. Philippians 1:6. I’ve lifted up your request into His capable hands. 🙂

His abundant blessings to and through you, Jenny

    2. I too am going thru a struggle with overweight issues but first we need to recognize that our bodies are going thru or the starts of menopause , we sometimes deprive our bodies of proper nutrients due to lack of eating then our bodies crave them to a point that we over eat when we do allow ourselves to eat take supplements of magnesium and calcium and vitamins k to protect our bones and muscalure structure then eat a breakfast of a king lunch of a queen and a supper of a pauper . How much you eat and how late you eat plays a big part of our food storing up in fat if we don’t eat early enough before going to bed . Remember healthy choices and proper portions can become a way of life no diets they are short term fixes portion control on the other hand can be a way of life do not deprive your body of what it needs or it will store up what food it gets when it gets it in the form of fat because it’s not sure of the next time it will get it . I hope this makes sense

I along with my sisters stand on this mighty word “By His Stripes we are Healed! ” Always sending prayers forth for each other♡ Because One can put a thousand to flight but two can put ten thousand to flight! Amen n Amen!

  6. Thank you so much for sharing your testimony. What a powerful miracle. I do want to say though that sometimes, God does not take away that illness for reasons only he has chosen. His ways are not our ways. So for the sister who may be ill, have courage and rest on his promise that he will never leave you or forsake you, even when you are right in the middle of the storm. Even if he does not answer your prayer to be healed, it does not mean your faith is not strong enough. Stay encouraged.

  10. I too like my sisters have been in pain for 33 years & have struggled with weight most my adult life. When you have pain it’s not easy to exercise or move more than what you have to. Still Jesus came to give life & give it abundantly. So I’m just going to say the truth that by His stripes I’m healed, we are healed sisters. We can all pray for each other. Thankyou Abba for hearing all our prayers.Jesus is with all of us through our trials. I love you Jesus. Your our strenght.
