When something doesn’t feel right, don’t do it.

“Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it” Psalms 34:14, ESV.

I have a friend who was looking for Mr. Right. She felt as though she had finally found him and decided she wanted to marry him. I knew that something wasn’t right about him, so I shared my heart with her. I even offered to pay her back every penny of what she’d already put towards her wedding. She refused and married him, and her marriage ended in divorce. I have another friend who was looking for Mr. Right. She thought she found him, and decided she was going to marry him. I knew something wasn’t right about him, and so I shared my heart. She chose to marry him and her marriage also ended in divorce.

What is it that I discerned about these guys? Both men were believers in God and both served in the church, but I could see beneath the surface. Something didn’t feel right in my spirit and I couldn’t ignore it.

My sister, we must operate on a higher level of spiritual discernment. We must be sensitive to the Holy Ghost in our decision-making. Whether you’re buying a house, choosing to relocate, choosing a new career, choosing to date and marry, or any life changing decision, follow hard after peace. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t do it. Wait until you have total peace and full assurance in your heart that you are making the right decision. Listen to the wisdom God has placed in your life and ask God to lead your every move.

Prayer: Father God, I thank you for your grace and wisdom. Forgive me for every time I disobeyed the leading of your Spirit. Help me to be extra sensitive to your leading in every decision I make. Help me to follow hard after peace and be patient. Give me spiritual discernment to see beyond the surface. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
