When you come to yourself.

“And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!” Luke 15:17

While sitting in a mental hospital, I wondered, “How in the world did I get here? I don’t belong here.” I had sunk so low and was in a deep dark place to where I didn’t recognize myself anymore. I had forgotten who I was and why God made me. But Jesus met me in that place. He helped me come to myself, and over the next months and years, He transformed me from the inside out.

You may be wondering the same thing I did: How did I get here? I don’t belong here. How did I let my life get so out of control? Maybe you don’t recognize yourself anymore and have forgotten who you are and why God has made you. But my dear sister, Jesus will meet you right where you are. He will help you come to yourself. He will break the power of Satan’s lies over you and will cause His truth to penetrate through to your heart until you are reminded. When you come to yourself, you remember you do have a home in heaven, you have a Father who loves you, you have a family in Christ that cares, and you have a purpose for why you were born. God helps you remember who you are and all of the lies of the enemy are shattered.

The prodigal son remembered as he came to himself, and he went straightway to his father. You will do the same, and God will welcome you with open arms. He will put a ring on your finger, a crown on your head and a robe on your back. He doesn’t see what you think He sees. He sees His deeply beloved daughter who has come to herself and has turned her heart and her focus back to Him.

Prayer: Father God, I thank you for speaking to me. Thank you for meeting me right where I am, and reminding me of who I am and why you made me. Thank you for helping me come to myself and see you with right eyes. You love me and I love you. I turn my heart to you. I turn my gaze to you. No matter what I experience in this world, I welcome you Lord into my life. I welcome your sweet embrace, your love and your identity for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

      1. Oh Lord that is the most amazing, almost undescribable feeling when you come to yourself. I’ve lost my way, holding on for dear life to find myself again. This message spoke so deeply to me bc over the course of three years, tears, heartache, anguish, drug abuse, reckage, I lost myself, the person God made me to be and I want so badly to have her back. I pray for a renewal of my heart, a complete transformation bc I can’t live like this with all of these regrets and shame I’ve accumulated the past 3 years. I know God is here, He is going to bring me through this, but in His time l, not mine. So I wait, I pray, for the day my Father restores my soul. I miss myself, this isn’t me. God I love you, help me trust that this season will come to pass and I will be free to be me again. Thank you dotk. Amen.
