“As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: but as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:14-16
The closer you get to a holy God the more you realize the things in you that are not holy. It’s like looking at two shirts placed far apart and from a distance they both look white, but the closer you bring those shirts together, you clearly see that one is white and the other is off-white. It is the same with our hearts. You may think your heart is pure and that you are living right until you begin to draw closer and closer to the LORD, who is holy, and find that you are off in so many areas. God brings things to our attention not for our shame, but for our spiritual growth and development. He helps us see what’s wrong in our hearts and in our lives so that He can help us fix those areas by His grace and power.
In these times, so many of us are like off white shirts who stand in our own self-righteousness completely unaware that although we look and sound holy, we are not. God wants holiness. He wants a people who look like Him, a people who walk like Him, talk like Him and live like Him. As we draw closer and closer to the LORD, let us be open to seeing our sin and our ways that need to be changed by God’s grace and power. Let us never be content with being an off-white shirt.
Prayer: Yes, LORD. I hear you speaking to me and I receive your Word. As I draw closer to you, I ask that you reveal to me what’s not right in my heart and in my life. Help me change. I don’t want to be like an off-white shirt. I want to be pure and holy. I want to be pleasing in your sight because that’s what you deserve for all you’ve done for me. Help me LORD. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
