Are you constantly trying to change people?

“..work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” Philippians 2:12, ESV.

After a few relationship failures in my life, it finally occurred to me what the problem was; I was constantly trying to change people. I didn’t know how to love and accept people just the way they are—flaws and all. When God opened my eyes to how I was behaving, I felt like a huge puddle on the floor. My pride and self-righteous attitude was exposed, and now I had to deal with myself. Don’t let your relationships be ruined because you want people to be more like you.

You can’t change:

• How people feel
• How they respond
• What they think
• What they believe
• How they love
• How they live their life

However, you can change:

• How you feel
• How you respond
• What you think
• What you believe
• How you love
• How you live your life

Don’t spend so much time trying to change people, their feelings, their mind, their moods, their life, or their habits. God didn’t call us to change anyone. That’s His job. We have a hard enough time trying to change our own selves, let alone someone else. Accept people the way they are and let God do the rest. Focus on what you can do, which is work on you. The more someone see your life improving for the better and the more they see you walking in humility, the more they may be inspired to change.

Prayer: Father God, I ask that you kill my pride. Completely crush it. I don’t want anything to do with self-righteousness. I humble myself. I’m nobody apart from you. You reached down and you rescued me from a pit. Any change that’s taken place in my life, you did it. You helped me, and you’re still helping me. You’ve turned my life around. Please forgive me for anytime I didn’t love who you love, or accept who you’ve accepted. Help me Lord. Do what only you can do in the lives of those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
