Don’t do anything right away.

“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:19, New Living Translation.

When you are surrounded by needs and everyone you love is experiencing a crisis, your heart goes out to them. You want to do whatever you can to help because that’s how you are wired. But it would be wise to pause and not do anything right away. I know that doesn’t sound very Christian-like, but doing nothing allows you the opportunity to receive God’s wisdom and direction. It allows you the opportunity to see if God wants to provide for your loved one in a different way. It also allows them to pray and watch God come through for them, which strengthens their relationship with the Lord. If we allow every emergency to become our emergency, we risk making poor decisions.

When writing to the church at Philippi, the Apostle Paul said, “My God shall supply all of your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” He didn’t say, I’m going to supply all of your needs; he put the expectation on God. He had learned how to trust in Him and be content in whatever state he found himself in.

When people you love are in need, pause and receive God’s wisdom and direction. Don’t do anything right away. Don’t make any promises you can’t afford to keep. You’re better off saying, “You’re not alone in this situation. We’re going to pray and trust God together to supply all of your needs.” This takes growth and maturity, but with God’s help, we can do it.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for your wisdom. You wired me to help people and minister to the needs of others. But help me, Father, to pause and not rush ahead of you. Give me wisdom and direction in every crisis situation that comes my way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. It’s waiting on the Lord for his blessings, we are always ready to help out the people ourselves but we have to wait on the Lord first.

  2. Amen. Thank you for this sister Kesha! I so needed to hear this. Though I stronly believe that I am blessed to be a blessings it is a truth that in all things we are to be led by the HOLY SPIRIT. I let others know that I am not
the sourcee, and that GOD is. I try to let them know unless they make JESUS Lord of their life, the natural thing they seek will not last and they will be coming back for more. The natural is temporal, but the spiritual is eternal. When the moment comes again (and it will) I will be bold in CHRIST, pause and wait for HOLY SPIRIT’s guidance and direction in the situation. Every emergency will NOT become my emergency. Amen to that πŸ’―πŸ’―πŸ‘πŸ‘

  6. Amen Sis Kesha, indeed in all things we must be lead by the holy Spirit. Sometimes it is not easy to say no. However if we don’t allow to minister to our hearts our very best efforts can turn out to be the worse. Yes we are bless to be a blessings, but sometimes we got to pause and hear our provider’s voice. In the end we want to know that our best interest was God’s best interest for that person. Father please lead us and guide with our devine emergencies πŸ™.

  9. My father taught me it is far better to pause and hear from the Lord, than to rush in and then wish you had waited.
