Facing the Fear of Rejection

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

For years I feared rejection. Without realizing it, I poured myself into my family and ministry to distract me from dealing with this fear. So God challenged me to face it because the more we grow in the Lord, the more He will shine His light on our fears.

If I were scared of heights, I would go skydiving. If I were scared of water, I would go swimming. If I were scared of bugs, I would call my husband because I’m still working on that one. But how do you get over a fear of rejection? I believe you put yourself out there. You be yourself. You open up. So I did. Initially, it was scarier than skydiving, scarier for me than deep sea diving or any sport that can kill you. I asked myself what’s the worst that could happen if someone rejects me? I realized nothing at all. I’d just keep moving on and keep living. So I opened up and faced my fear and received love instead. I received love instead of the rejection the enemy told me I’d receive.

The devil is a liar, and when we listen to him, we rob ourselves of the life God intended for us to live and enjoy. So one by one, I’m learning to tackle every fear in my life, both small and great because I want to live without fear. I want to live.

I encourage you to do the same. Tackle one fear at a time. Take a deep breath. You can do it. Don’t let the enemy rob you of the life God intended for you to live. The truth is, no matter who rejects you, you are accepted by God and so loved by Him.

Prayer: Father God I thank you for helping me to confront my fears. I desperately want to please you. Help me, Lord to face every fear in my heart. I thank you for your encouragement, Father. I thank you for helping me do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Thank you for your deep abiding love for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
