Get up, my sister, and go do what God has told you to do!

“Get up! Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it because its wickedness has come up before Me.” Jonah, however, got up to flee to Tarshish, away from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa and found a ship bound for Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went aboard to sail for Tarshish, away from the presence of the LORD” Jonah 1:2-3, Berean Study Bible.

The prophet Jonah was sent by God to give a warning to the people of Ninevah. He chose to board a boat and head for Tarshish instead. His disobedience caused a great storm while onboard that landed him in the belly of a whale. We know the story. God showed him mercy and caused the whale to spit him out so he could go and do what God instructed him to do.

My sister, are you being stubborn like Jonah? Are you looking around wondering what has caused the great storm and wondering why the whale of circumstance is staring you in the face like Sunday dinner? Could it be you are in the wrong place doing the wrong thing? Most often, people are not our problem; we are. There is no fulfillment outside of obedience to God. There’s no peace outside of doing what He told us to do. If you have been experiencing constant drama all around you, don’t look at others; look within. What has God told you to do that you still have not done?

Prayer: Father, I receive your loving correction and your wisdom. Forgive me for not doing what you told me to do. Thank you for your mercy. I choose to obey you, and go where you told me to go, and do what you told me to do. Remove that stubborn spirit far from me. I receive an obedient and submissive spirit. Be glorified in my life as I trust and obey you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
