Give Him the Broom

“Above all, love one another deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8

One day I went to visit a friend who suffers from a debilitating disease. When I walked into the home, I could smell a scent. I didn’t say anything, but just reached into my purse and mildly sprayed my perfume. As we sat in the living room, we talked and laughed. Then, she asked someone to bring her a broom to clean her rug, and she began to sweep while sitting in her chair. I watched as she swept over the same part of the rug and asked her to let me do it for her. She responded, no. Then after she saw that she couldn’t sweep the whole rug alone, I gently took the broom from her and finished sweeping.

You may not have a debilitating disease, but we are all suffering in our personal messes. But thank God, the Holy Spirit comes in and sits down with us, not mentioning anything of our sin. He fills our room with His sweet presence as His love covers and conceals our mess. Then, when we are ready to clean an area of our lives, He helps us accomplish the task. The Lord is gentle and patient with us. He knows everything about our struggles. Yet, He sits with us and does not humiliate or shame us. He loves us and wants to help us. I pray we will let Him have the broom. I pray we let Him have our lives, our failures, our traumas, and every part of our being. I pray we will let Him help us clean up any messes we’ve made and trust Him to do what we have not been able to do on our own.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for speaking to my heart. Thank you for loving me. Thank you that your Holy Spirit sits with me and fills my heart with your fragrance. There is some mess in me that I need help cleaning. I give you the broom and receive your help. Help me learn to trust you more and more with every part of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. Wow! Amazing word and an awesome reminder that GOD’s love for me is greater than the mess I make. I mess up sometimes, a lot of times actually, But GOD doesn’t point the finger at me or shame me. He is patient and wants to help me. Holy Spirit of GOD, have your way in me. Fix it LORD! I give you the broom to sweep every filth, every dust, every dirt that may hinder me from walking in my true calling and purpose. I thank you for doing it. Hallelujah πŸ™Œ

  2. It’s really amazing. I had been suffering due to the side effects of orthodontics treatment, i have difficulty in breathing only sometimes in one of my nostrils, and also felt my face not as happy as last time, and also I have decreased tongue space, I felt really depressed. It’s making me to have low self esteem and I don’t like to smile anymore. This has taken a great toll on my life and I have been battling with frustration due to the orthodontics treatment I had gone through. It’s even worse for me when I went on instagram and felt jealousy rising in me, i asked God why haven’t you stopped me that time, I’m suffering from it. And then today I brush the leaves in my garden using a broom. This message just felt so timely, I have to deal with the consequences of my choice and it’s okay, God will be beside me every step of the way. No matter what, it’s a comfort to know that and I also have hope that this is not the end, there might be another remedy someday.
