My sister, it’s time to sober up!

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” I Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ , NKJV‬‬.

Sis, there are people who have never experienced being drunk with alcohol. They don’t know what it is like to be completely out of it, as though they’ve just been on a bad roller coaster. Although some don’t know what alcohol intoxication is like, every single one of us have experienced a different kind of intoxication in our lives that’s just as bad. We all have experienced being completely wasted in our minds.

When we allow ourselves to consistently think on negative thoughts, before long we are no longer ourselves. It’s as if every negative thought is a shot glass filled with toxic substance. After a while of consuming the negative thoughts, our words become toxic, our actions become toxic, and our behavior changes dramatically.

Some have walked off their jobs, involved themselves in violence, abandoned their families, or left the church all in a state of intoxication in their minds. This happens when we think on thoughts that say, “They don’t like me”, “He doesn’t love me”, “I hate this job”, “I should have married someone else”, “She did that to me on purpose”, or “I can’t do this.” My sister, if we sit and receive these negative thoughts, we are going to say something we regret and do something we will regret. It’s after we sober up that we realize the consequences of our negative thinking.

Let us understand every action begins with a thought. Our life today is a direct result of our thinking yesterday. The Bible says cast down every vain imagination and bring into captivity every thought in the obedience of Christ (see 2 Corinthians 10:5). This is something we have to do on purpose. Refuse to think on anything negative and untrue when it comes to your mind, and receive what God says is true and right. It’s time to sober up and be vigilant so we can live the life God designed for us to live!

Prayer: Father God, forgive me for all of the negative thinking I have allowed in my life. You gave me the mind of Christ. Sober me up and help me stay sober-minded. I choose to cast down every vain imagination and take every thought captive. Father, I receive the help of your Holy Spirit to think on what is true, what is pure and right. When I’m alone, when I’m at home, when I’m with my husband, when I’m at church, and when I’m around my family and friends, help me refuse negative thoughts and think on the right things. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

(Read Philippians 4:8; 1 Peter 4:7-8)

  1. Wow, this devotion is spot on. While reading this, I fully know that Satan whispers negative thoughts in our ears..he knows our weaknesses. While reading this and praying about it, my God spoke these two words to me regarding every thought, before speaking..SORT AND SIFT. We have the ability to do that and we need to take the time to do that. (Take every thought captive, see if it is Godly). Before we speak, before we let anger in. Thank you DOTK, thank you Holy Spirit 💖

  2. Another way to do this, I learned from a few years ago while struggling with several losses, I read about it, it’s called. THE 3 Cs
… CATCH THAT THOUGHT, CHECK THAT THOUGHT, CHANGE THAT THOUGHT, now I add, is it a CHRIST LIKE THOUGHT.

  3. Timely word, yesterday was a difficult day for me I felt like I’m not accepted and liked by my co-workers I kept dwelling on this and woke up with a headache and a sad mood. Jesus help me.

  4. In a spiritual battle in my mind past few weeks! Been holding on to these verse about the devil running around seeking whom to devour and taking all thoughts captive to the obedience to Christ so this reminds me that I’m on the right track thank you Jesus for your confirmation I love e you Lord

  5. Wow. I wish I read this prophetic devotional earlier due my thoughts. I was able to pray myself out of it but it wasn’t until I began saying things that didn’t align with how I felt or was led by the HolySpirit. Thank you. Blessings, Shalom and Agape 👀🙏🏽❤️📖🙏🙌🏽
