Only put premium fuel in premium friendships.

“Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding” Proverbs 4:7

No one puts premium gas in a cheap car. We put high-quality fuel in luxury vehicles that need and require it. Likewise, it isn’t in our best interest to go above and beyond in giving all of our love, our time and our resources into a friendship that hasn’t first proven itself to be deserving of all of that. You are enriched by God, and you have so much love to give. Anyone would be blessed to have you in their lives. Just make sure you are pouring all of that creative love, time, affection, and money into the right kind of friendship. You will save yourself a lot of heartache and pain.

So many of us love hard. We give so much of ourselves, going the extra mile, bending over backward to make someone happy, but often we do this too soon. And that’s when reality hits us hard. My sister, if someone has shown over time, they have your back. If they’ve demonstrated they love and care about you to the same degree that you love and care for them. If your friendship has withstood the test of time and has been made stronger by the various challenges you’ve faced together, then, and only then, give them the quality and highly creative love that the friendship deserves. You owe it to yourself to only put premium fuel in premium friendships.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for your wisdom and grace. Help me, Lord, to walk in wisdom in my friendships. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. “If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.
    Luke 6:32‭-‬36 ESV

    1. Exactly. I highly respect this woman of God so much but would have to respectfully disagree. My mother for instance was not a very Godly women. I kept remembering how God loved be BEFORE I loved Him. I continued to Pursue her in love and good deeds. And what do you know. 4 years down the line and she’s over here loving me the same even in my weakest times. Wisdom of the world is foolishness to God. We need to be so closely in tune with who God is and what He has done so that we CAN spread His love to those whom do not deserve it. Because that is exactly what He has done for us.

      1. There may be an instance (like in abuse cases)where God is showing you to let go, if it is draining you of the love He has put in you or changing you for the negative…but GOD in His wisdom will show you when to persevere and when to Let Him take over, if you truly seek Him and His guidance. I too fully respect this woman of God and her devotions…they have brought me closer to God and they challenge me to hear from Him and lean on the His Word that’s why this scripture came to me and unsettled my spirit because there is more to relationships than give premium to premium. Look at how God came after us when we were a rebellious stiffnecked people. Just look at me! I don’t deserve His love but He loves me unconditionally! And it’s
HIS premium love that is transforming His child who gave waaaay less than premium, into one who is seeking His face on how to improve our relationship. God in His wisdom will guide. I’m happy to hear about your relationship with your mother-in-law. God bless.

  2. Let the Wisdom of God guide us in all relationships….He shows us when to persevere and when to let go and let Him. We save our selves alot of heartache and pain when we do the good God asks us to do, expecting nothing in return. We bear in mind that people will possibly be ungrateful, mean, hurtful or will not reciprocate but if we don’t seek God, that same relationship we want to give up on because it may be too taxing may be the very relationship that God uses to bring about positive change to His glory. Seek God’s wisdom.

  3. Interesting comments today. Proverbs 4:23 says to guard our hearts with all diligence. Matt.7:6 warns us not to cast our pearls before swine or they may turn on us and rip us up. After reading Keshia’s devotionals several years, I venture to say she is referring to wisdom, discernment, and balance in our relationships. Sometimes when we throw all our best to someone, it simply feeds their exaggerated sense of self, enables their disorder. Even the apostle Paul warned his followers to stay away from certain people who had shown themselves harmful.

    1. In a utopic world if everyone followed Philippians 2:3, esteeming other more than self there would be healthy balance in relationships…but that doesn’t happen so what do we do then? All each of us can do individually is follow God’s leading and Jesus’ example on how to love. I agree that people should do better at giving their best to a relationship where they are receiving the best of the other person… but to give your best solely in that circumstance, then i disagree. There are other circumstances where God is calling us to give our best even when the it seems the person does not deserve it. Love even your enemies, forgive 70×7. My enemies would not dare give me their best but I am compelled by the love of God inside me to love them anyways. Of course we need wisdom and discernment from God in navigating healthy relational outcomes, agreed 100% ; but if giving only premium to premium, (which is the title of this devotion) shows we have that discernment and wisdom from God then i have to digress because all relationships don’t fit that mould and that stance would not be relevant to all relationships. Luke 6:32-36 shows us that. God says give expecting nothing in return and that in itself is unbalanced by our own human logic…but its what God expects and His “logic” is very contrary to man’s… Hallelujah for that!!! The best way to guard our hearts with all diligence is to let God live in it…He gives us the wisdom and discernment as to who gets the pearl , He decides not us, who is the “swine”. He knows better than we do, if it is a situation of enabling negative/selfish disorders etc. And He is the One to wisely guide us to deal with such situations. We are to follow His call to move when He says move and how He tells us to move. We cannot fall into the trap of deciding who gets premium if God is using us to bring Him glory. As it relates to Paul, we indeed need to be also guided by God in our choosing of company we keep, we are not expected to align ourselves with deviants if we too are struggling to overcome deviance. As we are strengthened of God and equipped to guard our hearts, then we can be used as His tool to strengthen those who are going through what we have passed through. All to His chosing and His will.
