The Lord will help you communicate your needs.

“You have searched me and known me.” Psalm 139:1

In my relationships, I’m the one providing emotional, spiritual, and physical support to others without asking for anything in return. But God, because He loves me, He will allow me to reach a point of need. He will cause me to see when I need the same emotional and spiritual support and someone simply being there for me as I am with others. Communicating those needs has been an area of growth because somewhere along the way, I learned strong people never need anyone’s help. I learned we’re supposed to do for others and never ask for anything for ourselves, and this wrong way of thinking almost destroyed me.

Maybe you’re like me, my sister. You’re used to holding others up and being the one people call on for encouragement and wisdom. Maybe you’re that person people reach out to for support, and when it’s time for you to be held up and strongly supported, you’re finding either no one is there, or no one knows the depth of your need. What do you do? You be real with yourself and admit you have a need. Then, you humble down and communicate those needs. Whether you need encouragement, prayer, someone to visit you, a hug, or a listening ear, God wants to use someone to minister to your need in a beautiful way.

Prayer: Father, I realize I need more from my relationships than I am willing to admit. You know I don’t like being needy or a burden. Lord, help me with this. Help me to communicate. Help me be patient while those I love begin to understand me more. Until then, Lord, thank you for ministering to every emotional, spiritual, mental, and physical need I have. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. 🗣This is me, Thank you GOD for being here and helping me to realize I cannot expect me from them! Communication is key…perception is not intent! Capacity is a gift!

  3. Good Morning Sister Kesha, DOTK Family, and Community Writers, and Daughters of The King/Sisters-In-Christ, this is such a relevant subject that needed to be discussed. So many see each other as a strong person and don’t think for a moment that what we’re to show the same a need for it to be reciprocated. This is what we get wrong in our relationships, being a taker and not giving as well. This is how “Iron Sharpens Iron”, “Bear One Another’s Burden”, How we can become a “Friend”, as well as “Sister and Brother not being blood relative.” There is other scripture verses to go with this. How we speak the truth in “Love”. Then, our words being seasoned with salt and others. I agree with the prayer and know because I lack in many areas as well, He continues to word my mouth that maturing me that more compassion, grace, and mercy, and understanding, so I’ll know how to communicate my needs.
Thank you, Father, for always giving us what we need to press on!!! ❤️❤️❤️

  6. Thank you. The Lord really helped me communicate my needs today and used this post to help me realize I needed to ask for help. In a moment of panic, I remembered reading this in the morning and it gave me the courage to ask for help! I reached out to others who quickly answered the call and are now helping me problem-solve! It was hard and scary to ask for help, but my trust is in the Lord! I don’t know how it will work out, but God! God is so good to me, and so I know all will be well and as it should be! Praising in advance!!

  9. When I began to read this post, I immediately knew God was speaking to my heart. I have the same mindset about being the one everyone relies on. As it was mentioned, God allows me to face my needs as well. Learning to face my needs has helped me to rely more on God until He reveals the person(s) I can communicate my needs to. Thank you so much for this timely article.

  11. I have learned that no matter how strong you are there come a time that you have to reach out to others . Because we are human and as Moses needed help to held his arms high we also need someone to come next to us to pray for us, to strengthen us.
