Think like a steward.

“Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day” Deuteronomy 8:17-18, ESV.

When asked how he wanted to be buried, a dying rich man told his wife, “I want you to bury me with every cent of my money.” To which she replied, “Yes, dear.” When he died, she walked up to the casket to say her goodbyes and to place an envelope in his coat. When they laid his body to rest, her friends asked, “Please tell us you didn’t really bury him with all that money!” She responded, “Yes, I did! I wrote him a check for every cent.”

Before entering into the promised land, Moses warned the people to not think that it was their hands that had brought them wealth, but it was God Who gave them power to get wealth. God will prepare your mindset before He brings you into a wealthy place.

There are tons of books out there on how to think like a millionaire, but God’s perspective is for us to think like a steward. A steward is someone who has been given the responsibility to manage what they’ve been entrusted with. Just as in the introductory story, the dying rich man gave no room for God to use his wealth, not even to bless his own wife. He had the mindset that his own power and might had brought him increase. He also had the mindset that it was all his. Beware to not have this mindset. This wrong way of thinking can take you down a path that turns your heart away from God. The end result is losing your soul.

Remember everything you have, God gave it to you. Remember to keep His Kingdom purpose at the forefront of your mind. Remember to think like a steward.

Prayer: Father God, I thank You for speaking directly to my heart. I receive Your truth and I ask You to give me a deeper understanding. Thank You that wealth is coming into my hands, and because of the help of Your precious Holy Spirit, I will keep a right mind and heart. I don’t serve money, I serve You, Lord. I am a steward over everything You entrust into my care. Be glorified in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
