True Intimacy

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Psalms 139:14

True intimacy begins with transparency. Until we can learn to open up and be our true selves, our relationships will only go so far. They will remain shallow and on the surface. In order to be our unique ourselves; we have to know ourselves, but in order to know ourselves, we have to be real with ourselves. Until we’re real and honest with ourselves, we won’t be real with others. Anyone who genuinely loves you will allow you that freedom to be real.

Maybe you have been pretending for so long, that you’ve begun to believe your own lie. Maybe you’ve been hurt so much you have built steel walls around your heart. Maybe you just don’t care to open up because you don’t see the benefit. Or maybe you are so bent on servitude that you easily give love, but don’t receive love. You allow others the freedom to be themselves, but you hold back who you are. You deserve to be heard. You deserve to be loved. You deserve the same freedom you give others. We must let God show us who we are so we can begin to be our true selves and build closer relationships.

Prayer: Father, thank You for helping me be myself in You. You created me with a uniqueness. Help me learn to let people in that You have placed in my life. You took Your time to make me and fashion me, now let me learn to present all of what you made. And when it comes to my flaws, help me remember to not hold back those weak areas. I’m not afraid of my areas of improvement because I know you are at work in me and others. Be glorified in me God. In Jesus name, Amen.

  2. How absolutely timely this is! Father thank You for not leaving us the way You found us, but changing us from glory to glory. We are so blind to our own weaknessess and need of change. We cling to what we think gives us protection and security, meanwhile it’s a lie of Satan to keep us from becoming who we really are in Christ, it blinds us for what God has in store for us and to be used for Your glory. But God, if we are willing, You are more than able to turn our self centredness, selfishness, selfrighteousness around, set us free to become a beautiful butterfly in Your kingdom to enlighten others and bring You glory. How absolutely awesome You are! How I worship and adore You! Wonderful Counselor, King of Glory Who was and is and is to come!

  9. Good morning sister’s in Christ
The apostle Paul perfectly expresses the most earnest desire of every true follower of Christ: “That I may know him” (Philippians 3:10).
“Knowing Christ,” in the Pauline sense is not the sort of mystical relationship many people imagine. Paul wasn’t longing for some secret knowledge of Christ beyond what is revealed in Scripture. He wasn’t asking that private messages from Christ be whispered into his ear.
In fact, the knowledge of Christ Paul sought was anything but mystical. What he longed to know was the power of Christ’s resurrection, the fellowship of His sufferings, and conformity to His death.
We err greatly if we think of intimacy with Christ as some lofty level of mysterious, feelings-based communion with the Divine—as if it involved some knowledge of God that goes beyond what Scripture has revealed. That idea is the very heart of the gnostic heresy. It has nothing in common with true Christianity.
Just what do we mean, then, when we speak of intimacy with Christ? How can we pursue knowing Christ the way Paul had in mind in Philippians 3:10? Scripture suggests at least five aspects of true intimacy with Christ:
    The Intimacy of Faith

Notice what prompts Paul’s comment about knowing Christ in Philippians 3:10. He had already spent several verses describing his life before Christ (Philippians 3:4-6). He cited all the spiritual advantages he enjoyed as a Pharisaic Jew. But then he declared that he had discarded all those spiritual advantages for Christ’s sake: “What things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ” (Philippians 3:7-8).
As a Pharisee, Paul had sought to earn God’s favor by legal obedience. But he came to realize that the law sets a standard he could never meet. And so he scrapped all his own works of righteousness as if they were filthy rags (cf. Isaiah 64:6). This does not mean that he ceased doing good works, of course, but that he gave up trusting in those works for his salvation. Instead, he put all his faith in Christ—and was clothed in Christ’s perfect righteousness instead of his own imperfect works.
This is the doctrine known as justification by faith. Scripture teaches that our sins were imputed to Christ, and He paid the full penalty for them in His death. Now Christ’s own righteousness is imputed to us, and we receive the full merit of it. Without this reality we could enjoy no relationship whatsoever with a holy God.
Moreover, justification by faith—because it means we are clothed in Christ’s own righteousness—establishes the most intimate imaginable relationship between the believer and his Lord. It is an inviolable spiritual union. That’s why Paul often described believers as those who are “in Christ.”
In other words, all true intimacy with Christ has its basis in faith. In fact, no relationship with Him whatsoever is possible apart from faith (Hebrews 1:1). As the apostle Peter points out, we love Him by faith, even though we have not seen Him (1 Peter 1:8).
    The Intimacy of True Worship

In Hosea 6:6 the Lord says, “I delight in loyalty rather than sacrifice, and in the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.”
That verse means we should not imagine that worship consists of rote acts of religious ritual—like sacrifices, burnt offerings, and other ceremonies. Instead, we need to realize that real worship is grounded in the true knowledge of God.
If we want God to delight in our worship, we must think rightly about Him. The very essence of idolatry consists in wrong thoughts about God. And conversely, true knowledge of God means knowing Him as He is revealed in Scripture.
To put it another way, sound doctrine, not liturgy and ritual, is the litmus test of whether our worship is acceptable.
Right thinking about God is therefore essential to true intimacy with Him. Anyone who would know Him intimately must know what He has revealed about Himself. And again, this does not mean we should seek some mystical knowledge about God. All we can know with any certainty about God is what is revealed in Scripture. Those who would know the true God in the true way must therefore seek to be thoroughly familiar with His Word.
    The Intimacy of Prayer

Jesus himself taught us to seek intimacy with God through private prayer. Prayer is where the worshiper pours out his heart to God. And Jesus Himself stressed the importance of private prayer: “when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret” (Matthew 6:6).
He was confronting the practice of the Pharisees, who loved to pray publicly, for show. Jesus was not teaching that prayers should never be offered publicly, for there are obviously times when Scripture calls us to corporate prayer.
But the true Christian seeking intimacy with God will pray most often, and most fervently, in private. The true audience of all our prayers is God Himself. And if we understood what an incomprehensible privilege it is to be invited to come boldly before His throne of grace, we would surely spend more time there, pouring out our most intimate thoughts, fears, desires, and expressions of love to Him.
    The Intimacy of Obedience

Jesus said to the disciples, “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you” (John 15:14). Thus Christ Himself made obedience to Him an absolute requirement for true spiritual intimacy.
Let no one claim intimacy with Christ whose life is marked by disobedience rather than submission to Him. Those who refuse to obey Christ as Lord cannot claim to know Him as a friend. Scripture plainly declares that He is Lord of all (Acts 10:36), and He is therefore entitled to demand our allegiance to His Lordship.
As a matter of fact, those who withhold that allegiance are His enemies, not His intimates (cf. James 4:4). That’s why true intimacy with Him is utterly impossible without unconditional surrender to His divine authority.
Again, this takes the matter of intimacy with Christ out of the realm of the mystical and defines it in terms that are intensely practical.
    The Intimacy of Suffering

Returning to Philippians 3:10, we note once again what kind of intimacy with Christ Paul was seeking: “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.”
Of course, we easily understand why Paul wanted a share in the power of Christ’s resurrection. But why did the apostle desire to know the fellowship of Christ’s sufferings and be conformed to His death?
We can be certain that Paul had no perverse love of pain and suffering. Elsewhere he testified how he repeatedly besought the Lord to deliver him from a “messenger of Satan” that was like a thorn under his skin (2 Corinthians 12:7).
In the midst of that experience Paul discovered that God’s grace is sufficient to see us through all our sufferings. Moreover, God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
God gives a special measure of grace to those whom He calls to endure suffering. In a familiar passage in the Beatitudes, Jesus said this about suffering:
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you (Matthew 5:10-12).
There is a special blessedness known only to those who suffer for Christ’s sake. Those who would desire true intimacy with Him must be willing to endure what He endured.
Add all those things together to get the full picture: True intimacy with Christ involves suffering, obedience, much prayer, a good knowledge of God’s Word, and a life of faith.
Notice that those are not advanced skills for second-level Christians. They are the most elementary issues of the Christian life. That underscores the truth that intimacy with Christ is not some sort of mystical secret. It is the whole point of our life in Christ. Indeed, it is the chief end for which we were created: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

    1. Amen well put, every element needed for intimacy covered. This without a healthy fear, reverence of God, completes the picture. Thankyou Bonnie for sharing your knowledge so clearly and plainly. God bless.

    2. Wow Bonnie Blair, make it plan then! You have enlighten me yet again!I absolutely love the way the Holy Spirit uses you to speak to me!!!! I want to encourage you to keep letting God use you in such a mighty and humbled way!Yes,TGBTGlory!!!!God bless DOTK for this powerful devotional! God Bless You All!!!! I’m all excited!!!!

  10. Thank you God, I can be myself, why would I not want to be who GOD made me, there’s no other like me( hallelujah) I am the one and only… Thank you Jesus.

  11. Hello my sisters, I love you all pray that God blesses you abundantly for the way you have all blessed my life and heart, as a light unto the Truth, the Way, and the Life. Thank You God, for using my sisters to influence me, inspire me, teach me, lead me, guide me, encourage me, pray for me, support me in Christ’s approval, value and love. Thank You for giving me sisters to carry my burdens with me! These sisters are so kind to me! They give me strength and courage, just like You do! They remind me of Your love and sovereign providential care for me in every way. Thank You God, for my sisters. They are a beautiful example of Christ to me, and they have changed my life. Thank You, Lord, for the beautiful way You have sovereignly placed these very special friends and prayer partners to stand on this battlefield with me. You move me to tears. I need to tease them. I need to freely pour my love on You, with no oppression from the enemy anymore. I shall be consecrated me unto You, my Lord. I shall reach the throne room, with a new tune springing up from within my soul!! I am so beautifully taken apart here!! I am but a puzzlepiece of a masterpiece, that is still trying to pick up the pieces of a nightmare I dreamed up in mind, that was and is always shall be wrapped up in lies. God, please pick up the puzzlepieces of me. They don’t all fit here. I need You to turn the fire up more. Heat it up so hot that the demons will die if they try to toss someone else in the fire with me!!! I am meeting You at our appointed destiny tomorrow, my Lord. I will take a break and go back to the encampment of the Lord! Momentarily, I will leave this battlefield behind, because this is what You say for me to do. I will rest for seven days in the intimate joy of the Lord!!! I hear You. I am surrounded by heavy oppression, so I pray, my Lord, that You help me, as I am stepping into the lion’s den alone. Help me hold on. Its just You, me, and the Bible that defends me in Truth and spirit, the Word, and it shall slay my enemies before they can even reach me at the throne, when I have reached it. Then I shall behold my Lord in new gloriously radiant beauty and awestruck, magnificent wonder. I desire a new breath of holiness upon my heart and life. Breathe it deep into my soul, my Lord. Resuscitate even the deep bases of my spiritual lungs… Hallelujah!!! Breathe deeper and force Your holiness down into there, where it is black and stale from inhaling hate and resentment and distaste for the one I see in the mirror. I need to see the real me, my Lord. The one You knew first, and designed at the outset of eternity!! Eternity is just a moment in Your hands. A moment is just a plan of destiny that can’t be clearly seen by the ones who chase after the heart of a King! Because our King is truly sovereign and omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent, we are forever chasing after the heart of our King!!! Relentlessly chasing a heart that is more desired than before, though it has given more, my well becomes more dry!!! And I sigh in the spirit, and say, “My Lord, such an impossible destiny for the likes of me…”
    But, God………..
I like Your plan, my Lord. I am glad that You just thrust greatness upon me, because I am not a stronger taker! You, God, are the maker of mighty warriors though!! You, God, build up a warrior’s heart in this princess who loves her Prince of Peace with a relentlessly crazy love, sent from above, woven into my soul, that I shall never snip or embroider over with the image of an idol anymore!! I am the one that was sitting by the door over there. I sat quietly and didn’t alert my enemy to my presence. I let him walk through. No more, King Jesus, because You run this show now! I crouched down in the corner and hid from the flaming arrows aimed right at me!! No more, in the Name of King Jesus!! Who called me unto this purpose?? It wasn’t the likes of ME!!! It was the LORD, God Almighty!!! What can mere men do to me??? I walk in the eternal blood of the sacrifice of the Lamb of God. I am covered in the blood and as such deliver abounding grace and unending mercies unto my fellow man. When I have no one else, I have the One True Eternal God, Jehovah! El Shaddai!! Emmanuel, show me more that You are always God with me!! I shall not be a casualty of the enemy!!! I shall not casually walk about, not realizing what my anointing is and how it defines who I am. My flesh dies in the fire, and I am rewired, restructured, to be a soldier in the army of the Lord. Dr. Jesus, come heal and deliver me!! Teach me how to be who You call me to be. I won’t give up, because You never, ever will!! I am not held up by the oppression of my enemies, You say. I am being perfected on this chessboard of life supplied me, all to the glory of God. You are perfecting the game plan You have for me. Yet, I walk treacherous close to the enemy’s lines!! Make a new line around me, my marriage, my home-to-be, my destiny in ministry, my family, my marriage, my husband’s and children’s hearts, and my intimate relationship with You, Lord, God Almighty! Take me deeper in love with You, Jesus, my Beloved! Holy Spirit, I surrender my will to You completely. More and more of You, infinitely more and more, and less and less of me unto a sweet victory, in the blood of the Lamb, my Lord, anoint me and bless me more unto the destiny You have appointed me for. I love You, so much my Lord. God bless, protect and keep my sisters and dear friends in Your sovereign hands. Shall no weapon formed against me or my sisters propser in the Name of Jesus. Pour Your love relentlessly on my sisters in my absence, my Lord, as I pour my love and intimate prayers and conversations completely up to You and only You. It is time for the secret part You said would come to me, to be opened up by Your Love. I am taking the locket You gave me off and I am busting it and dispersing Holy Spirit power everywhere around, within me and upon me and my family. Help me to no longer quench Your Holy Spirit by closing the locket to tight in fright. This is Your power and Authority sovereignly leading and protecting me. Your Sovereign Hand holds me, and I am one with my God! Holy Spirit, loose to empower me in a new and divinely ordered way. Thank You, for wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and discernment that keeps me on the path of everlasting life. Thank You for self-discipline, a sound mind, and enduring faith to see me unto a blessed end, Jesus. Your love is relentless. In Your Precious and Faithful Name I pray. Amen.

God bless you, my sisters and friends. I am fasting the devotional for a week. God has confirmed this to me. Thank you, my sisters, for all of your love, honor, and respect. Thank you my dear friends, for all of your heartfelt love, sincere prayers, uplifting support and faithful encouragement. Thank you, my fellow princess warriors, for your obedience to pray fervently and effectually for me and your other sisters. Thank you, my princess sisters, for showing me how to be a beautiful portrait of love for the world to see. God, I don’t know all names, but I know there have been sisters, from as far back as a year ago, who were integral parts of my walk to get me where I am today. God, I pray that You bless them doubly for there blessings upon my life and heart and mind. Especially, my mind! Bless those beautiful sisters who prayed prayers for me to pray when I had no words to pray!! Bless those sisters who reached out to me when I was just a quiet soul. Bless those sisters who prayed the revival chirp right out of me. Bless those sisters who thought less of me, but now say Glory to God in the highest because You use me. Bless those sisters who seek a new intimate relationship with You the same way I do!!! God, I owe You my life and heart. This is a seven day journey, just for You and me unto a sweet blessed victory!! Hallelujah!! Thank You, sweet Jesus!!
I shall not be afraid, for the Lord my God has gone before me and prepared the way, for such a time as this. I am walking into a beautiful exchange between the Everpresent Restorer (Jesus) and the brokenhearted and crushed in spirit (me), between the Father (Abba) and His beloved daughter (Crystal Marie), between the Sovereign Maker (Yahweh) and His creation (me, in all entirety, unto the depth of my being), between the Sovereign Lover of my soul (King Jesus) and the love that steadily grows (Holy Spirit maturing in me), between the Healer (Jesus Christ) and the diseased in body, heart, mind, soul, and life (me, Cricket, Crystal Marie made stronger by Jesus, and all those You have called me to reach!!! Prince of Peace, I am packing up and preparing for our retreat unto our sanctuary of divine love and intimate devotion. I am excited and I anxiously await our departure tomorrow, my Lord. In Jesus’ Name, make an Awesome and wonderfully, fearfully made way for me to see just how fearfully and wonderfully You made me!! Glory, Glory, Glory!! Hallelujah!!! This is our honeymoon, my Jesus! I pray that You bless me with a beautiful one. It is the first I have ever had of any kind, even the worldly kind, and that excites me that this will be a real first for me in my mind, in a different way, with You, my Lord. I am so happy to have chosen You! No faltering, no cold feet! I am ready for You to put on the matching slipper, my Lord. I am ready to say, “I do” and take off running for an eternity after a Love that consumes me and consummates me unto my King!!! I shall love You passionately and desperately in a relentlessly crazy light held up against the darkness of the world. I shall honor Your Name and Your sacrifice daily, my Lord Jesus. I shall obey Your Word and the leading of unction in Your Holy Spirit, trust Your way and Your sovereign hand, and entrust my all to You, my God and my King, my Lord and my Savior, my Master and my Friend, Jehovah Shalom. My heart is Your home! Shall You forever be seated on the throne of my heart, King Jesus. In Your beautiful and loyal Name I pray. Amen.

  12. Darling Jesus it is inspiring to know that intimacy with you begins by accepting u as my lord n personal savior. Indeed if u should count our transgressions who will stand before u? I’m encouraged that on a daily basis my intimacy with you is progressing as u patiently teach me to be obedient, kind, loving n forgiving. Truly there’s been countless number of times that l’ve failed u but thank u for still keeping our relationship. You said l did not call u but u called me to bear fruit n that my fruit should remain. Sweet Jesus l know that with you in partnership with me to, my fruit shall remain.

    1. Awesome im learning to share and be inspired supported heard to hear Fron DOTK really love this site. A place a platform. Which creates intamcy amongst each other and sharing what our beloved father says to us and about us

  13. Dear lord if intimacy with u means being transparent with myself, you and my loved ones then l really need ur help!!! How do u remain “opened” to someone who constantly abuses u emotionally or wrongfully accuses u? Well these are some of the problems ur loved ones face on the battlefield. We ask for divine wisdom to walk in love as we seek to know you more intimately. We know that with you in our boats we will sail safely n smile at the storms.

    1. Dear k.k I believe and have seen that when one can get to the place where you don’t hear and accept what is being said to you ( because it’s not the truth, Ps 139 says it all of who you really are) and thus ignore the insults but just love , that’s where the victory lies. As long as we pay attention to the lies and allow it to hurt us it will continue, when we start ignoring it and give it to Jesus, changes start taking place. Those who are hurting you are hurting badly themselves. Bring all these issues to Jesus, He is the Healer and will restore. He will not further bruise the bruised or ignore them, bring your circumstances to Him with tears and reverence of Who He is. Then trust Him, at the right time, when we are ready to receive, our breakthrough comes. Blessings and prayers go with you.

      1. Yes i stand in agreement. For our sister and myself to. Hurt people hurr people how to stand andcstay in his presence when the enemy taunting. You.. How to respond and not react. When we are developing these faith muscles seeing the victory through when to walk away when to come back love from a distance humble meek roar like a liion. When Christ gives us understanding love grace mercy his presence joy a truly repenting heart. Learning to trust to take us deeper take us higher waiting on hin in him truly want to change inside out make better. Coices more obedience less wickedness its his wholeness.
