“A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep” John 21:17, NLT.
When Jesus came to Peter after he had denied Him three times, Jesus didn’t shake Peter and say, “Don’t you know I love you!” Instead, He asked him three times, “Do you love Me?” and each time Peter responded with an emphatic, “Yes, Lord I love you!”
Whenever we fall into sin, so often people will remind us that God still loves us. Maybe they assume we’ve forgotten. The truth is, we know how much God loves us, we just have trouble remembering how much we love Him—especially when we’ve fallen. The enemy speaks loudly in our ears, “If you really loved God you wouldn’t have done what you did! If you really loved God you wouldn’t have said what you said! You don’t love Him like you say you do! Look at you!” So, imagine what happens when we receive the powerful truth within our hearts that we do love God! We do! We put to silence every lie of the devil that causes us to question our love, our heart and our faith, and we are set free to love and serve Him again. And because we love Him, we will obey Him. Because we love Him, we will honor Him with our lives. Because we love Him, we will get back up again and do what He’s called us to do.
Just as Peter was later used by God to win thousands of people to the Lord, we too will be used mightily of the Lord. Three times He asks, do you love Me? And three times, we respond, “Yes, Lord. You know I love you.”
Prayer: Father, I love you. A million times I love you. I don’t care what the devil says; I love you, Lord. I don’t care how I feel; I love you. Help me honor you with my life. Forgive me. Heal me. Deliver me. Restore me. Thank you for never leaving me. Restore those around me who have fallen. Touch their hearts and their minds and help them see their love for you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

We’re so grateful for Your compassion, mercy, and grace, that You brought restoration to Peter that he became the “Fisher of Men” you told him You would make Peter.
