Don’t let sadness cause you to be disobedient.

“For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.” 2 Corinthians 7:10, NKJV

One day I noticed my children fighting over their toys, so I stepped in to correct the behavior by temporarily taking their toys away. Oh, they cried and cried. One of them even said they would die if they couldn’t have their toys back. I then gave them the instruction to prepare for bed and put on their pajamas. One immediately got up and did what I asked, while the other continued to cry and explode with grief and sadness. I told him, “Don’t let your sadness cause you to be disobedient. There’s a difference between good sorrow and bad sorrow.” As soon as I said that, the Lord began to talk to me about the responses of His children to His correction.

My sister, don’t allow your sadness to cause you to be disobedient toward the Lord. Don’t allow your anger over what’s been lost cause you to refuse to move forward and obey what He’s telling you to do. Respond properly, and you’ll see healing and restoration in your life. Respond properly, and you will see His salvation. We all deal with the consequences of our wrong choices, but how we respond is important. May the Lord help us all to be like my first son, who, although he felt sad over what he’d done and what was taken away, he jumped up and obeyed.

Prayer: Father God, forgive me if I’ve responded wrong to your correction. I humble myself right now. Teach me to respond properly when I have to deal with the consequences of my wrong choices. Teach me to move forward and not backward. I know you love me, and even when I make a mistake, you are good, and you’re already thinking of ways to restore me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

    1. HALLELUJAH!!! Oh how I learned this one the hard way. BUT GOD!!! He is SO AMAZING! I’m so grateful that He doesn’t do or treat us like we treat each other. When I read this I was immediately taken to the passage in Genesis when the cunning serpent said, “you shall surely not die…”.
The truth was, I may not have experienced the physical death of my choices and rebellion, but MAN Oh MAN Did I reap the death in my spiritual separation from my King. It wasn’t until I surrendered MY will and REPENTED SORROWFULLY that I received the restoration I was so desperately in need of. Spiritually, mentally and emotionally.
Thank you so much for your obedience to the LORD.
      Blessings!

  2. Hi Kesha. This is my first time posting. I was thinking about this today and when it came through, I knew it was definitely God.

I made this mistake 3 months ago. I suffered the consequences of my own actions and reacted like your second son and my own reaction made me even feel worse.

But through it all, God has loved on me, continually healed me and I can’t wait to see how much more He will do in this journey of healing and restoration.

He is so good, loving and kind. Also, I learnt that so many times we get sad and grieve, not because we are sorry for what we have done, but more so, we are sad for what we have lost.

May our main reason for being sorrowful be because we have sinned against God and not what has happened.

May God bless all of you.

  3. First giving thanks to You Heavenly Father 🙌🏽 Thanking You for RESTORATION, restoring what was lost. 4. Thank you for sending that message straight to my heart. When my oldest daughter was 27, she hooked me up with this post. This fall she past away and I have been so sad. I still have an eight year old daughter at home who has had to deal with not only the loss of her sister, but also with a mother who has “Checked Out.”
Your message was just what I need to hear. Thank you for letting the Lord use you to bless so many people everyday!
