Get up, my sister, and do what God has told you to do!

Get up! Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it because its wickedness has come up before Me. Jonah, however, got up to flee to Tarshish, away from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa and found a ship bound for Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went aboard to sail for Tarshish, away from the presence of the LORD” Jonah 1:2-3, Berean Study Bible.

The prophet Jonah was sent by God to give a warning to the people of Ninevah. He chose to board a boat and head for Tarshish instead. His disobedience caused a great storm that endangered the lives of men and landed him in the belly of a whale. We know the story. God showed him mercy and caused the whale to spit him out so he could go and do what God instructed him to do.

My sister, are you being stubborn like Jonah? Are you looking around wondering why the whale of circumstance is staring you in the face like Sunday’s dinner? Sometimes people are not our problem; we are. There is no fulfillment outside of obedience to God. There is no peace outside of doing what God has told us to do. Don’t look at others right now; look within. What has God told you to do, my sister, that you still have not done?

Prayer: Father, I receive your loving correction and your wisdom. Lord, show me if there’s any area of my life that I’m not trusting you or being obedient. Forgive me. Thank you for your love and mercy. I choose to obey you and go where you tell me to go. I choose to do what you tell me to do by your grace. Remove any stubbornness against you far from me. Give me a submissive spirit to you and your way. Be glorified in my life as I learn to trust and obey you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. This is another example of God telling me to do something…this post gives me more confidence to go up to this person at the gym, practically a stranger, to present him with Scriptures God said he needs. I know that I know that I know to do this, but the timing hasn’t worked out yet. God willing this afternoon it will happen. Praying I hear correctly the time to go, as I’ve missed him for the last two days.

Plus I will get back to meeting with Him after breakfast in the designated place….I’ve been a bit off kilter with meeting with Him there. Thank You God for this gentle correction. Thank You for loving me despite my unwillingness to do what You said.
