“Let the [spoken] word of Christ have its home within you [dwelling in your heart and mind—permeating every aspect of your being] as you teach [spiritual things] and admonish and train one another with all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God” Colossians 3:16, Amplified.
Walking into a kitchen with good smelling food cooking on the stove does not cause the nutrition that food carries to enter your body. It’s not until we sit down and taste of it and receive it into our bodies that it can provide the nutrients and satisfaction we need.
God wants us to taste and see how good His word is. He wants His word dwelling richly in our hearts. He wants us to sit with it, receive it and let it be good to us. Let it wash over our minds and gratify our deepest spiritual hunger, and then we can teach it and share what we’ve received.
You will share the word that God gives you with much more joy, conviction, and passion when you receive it and digest it. There’s nothing like trying God for yourself and then going out and spreading the good news. Because He’s so good to you, your satisfaction in Him alone can cause someone to want to know Him.
Prayer: Father God, I hear you and I receive the words you are speaking to me right now. I act on this word right now, and choose not to quickly share it, but receive it in my heart, sit with it, digest it, and hear what you are wanting to get across to me. Help me take my time and digest your word in my heart so that it can strengthen me, nourish me and help me grow in you. In Jesus name, Amen.
“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” Psalms 34:8, NKJV
