God knows what He’s doing.

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock” Matthew 7:24-25, NKJV.

There’s a new building being built down the road from my home. When the construction process began, the lot was cleared and a hole was dug deep in the earth. Then the exciting part of laying the foundation was completed. I knew right away the building would be tall by how deep and how strong the foundation was laid, and sure enough, there were several floors being added. Even though there have been major storms and mild flooding in the area, and though the building is not yet complete, the strong foundation is keeping the building intact, standing strong and firm.

My sister, God wants you to know that He knows what He’s doing. When He tells you to go deep, go deep. When He tells you to trust Him, trust Him. When He tells you to not worry about what everyone else is or isn’t doing in their spiritual walk, don’t worry. Sometimes people will go about their merry way, not praying, not fasting, and not spending time in the word of God, and it can look like everything is going well for them. It can seem like they are prospering without any sacrifice at all, any foundation building, character building, Holy Ghost pruning, stretching, or anything! God says to not envy sinners. Don’t get in your feelings when they prosper in their way. Only a life built on a solid foundation of obedience to the word of God will withstand the heavy storms that are sure to come. Only a marriage built on Christ will last. Any other foundation will not stand.

You keep letting God strengthen you in the areas where it matters most. Keep answering His call to steal away with Him in the middle of the night in prayer. Keep responding to Him when He draws you away from harmful influences and close to spending time with Him doing things that honor Him. Keep obeying Him when He calls you to turn away from eating or drinking for a while so you can lean into Him. I promise you, the author and finisher of your faith is building your life, strong and stable! He has great plans for you! You will have many levels of glory, and you will withstand any storm!

Prayer: Yes, Lord, my cry is for you to strengthen my foundation in you and build my life. Help me not envy sinners who have chosen to build without you. I want a firm foundation that can withstand anything that comes my way. I want my life to bring you glory. I give my all to you for you to build my life how you see fit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  5. You have me thinking more deeply about this passage today, about that it’s an ongoing building of the foundation. Previously I would have said, “YES, I have a strong foundation.” Well, yes, a started with a great foundation and (I’m working on using “and” instead of “but”. That’s a while other story.)… and, now it’s my job to maintain it. Shoot. I really dislike maintenance! I live creating, starting something new. If we continue the analogy, as a homeowner, I can create a beautiful home. If I don’t take great care to maintain my home, it doesn’t take long for it to start looking shabby. Sigh. I don’t want a shanty faith foundation; I want a strong, beautiful faith foundation.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this passage! As always, the Word of God is a living thing. There are always new things to be learned from “the same old words.”

  6. Yes, we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. All things is working for our good. Thank you. Blessings, Shalom and Agape πŸ‘€πŸ™πŸ½β™₯οΈπŸ“–πŸ™ŒπŸ½
