Harbor Humility, Not Offense

“In his pride the wicked does not seek him, in all his thoughts there is no room for God” Psalm 10:4, NIV.

Too often, we find our lives in stagnation; unable to get pass the invisible rock blocking our path. Could that rock possibly be a heart issue? When unforgiveness or offense harboring takes root in our heart, it can cause more destruction than any visible attack on our lives ever could. Unforgiveness and offense harboring are inward expressions of pride. By refusing to forgive others, we elevate ourselves to a level higher than God, whom forgives us despite our own failings. Offense harboring creates an atmosphere where love cannot be freely received or shared. It has the same attributes of the tactics our great accuser uses against us. The accuser constantly reminds us of our wrongs and shortcomings in an effort to keep us from truly seeing and receiving the knowledge of God’s love for us and who we are in Christ. When a person offends us, we are reminded of the offense every time we see that person. Seeing the offense and not the person causes us to view others negatively and our actions respond accordingly. This hinders relationships and God’s Holy Spirit from working in and through us for the good of others. Will you ever be faced with opportunities to become offended? Absolutely. However, we have a new nature in Christ and the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we can respond like Jesus and choose to love and forgive rather than become offended. We must choose to “let go and let God” through prayer and humility. The health of our hearts depends on it.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, search my heart today and reveal to me any unforgiveness or offense harboring that may be standing in the way of the work you seek to do in and through me. As you reveal anything that may be hindering my walk with you, I ask for forgiveness in Jesus name. I know that I am under your grace and it is only by the blood of Jesus Christ, not my works, that I am declared righteous in your sight. Help me to forgive others quickly. Help me to hear your leading in every situation. Keep me humble in all I do and think. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

  2. Wow! This is very timely!!! God is actually dealing with me on this matter. He gave me dreams and then gave me scriptures to support the dreams and took a deeper dive into my heart. Immediately after that, I open this devotional, which provided even more insight to the issues developing in my heart due to the trap of offense. Here’s what our loving Father told me (well, here’s a snippet… He said sooo… Much… More…)…

    Offense vs Offended

Offense is what happened; Offended is a reaction to what happened.

Offense is an event; Offended is a decision.

Offenses are inevitable; Offended is optional.

In essence, I must (it’s not a request–it’s a command)…I “must” forgive my offenders. I “must’ choose to see the offenses as an opportunity to grow spiritually and to be developed. Thank you for helping me to see that it is pride and I must humble myself. Jesus… Help me!!! Holy Spirit, thank You for the inner work and for loving me enough to convict me so I can “move forward”. Father, I let go… I’m waving my white proverbial flag in humble submission. Thank You for completing this great work in me and loving me enough to help me see and deal with the root of bitterness and resentment starting to sprout 🌱 as a result of the back-to-back offenses. What they intended for evil, You “will” work it out for my good. Hallelujah!!! Father, forgive me. Father, forgive them. In Jesus’s Name, Amen.

    1. I 2nd that devotion/testimony! We not only hold on to the offender in our mind but it settles in our ❤️ and causes all kind of health issues. Letting go and letting GOD! Is the only way through it!!! Amen Give God the Glory and move on!

  3. Amen hallelujah thank you Father God for allowing our Sis Kesha with this devotional and prayer to readers though her Ministry bless her name in the name of Jesus our savior Amen❤🙏🏽

  4. So timely for me..for me to live is Christ and to die is gain..dieing to my expectations of this world that only Christ can fill. He is the Bread of life to sustain our spiritual needs that overflows our physical needs sometimes as well..may the things of this world grow strangely dim..and Jesus grow brightly..give us our daily bread of life..Matt 6:33

  5. Extremely timely for me. I have, at times, allowed unforgiveness and offense to show up in my relationships. I have been in constant prayer about learning to let go and let GOD. My GOD who sees all and knows all is doing a good work in me. He knows my heart, and today I make a decision by declaring and believing the prayer. Lord, take away this heart of stone and give me a heart of flesh. I choose to believe right. I choose to forgive and not be offended
Jesus’ forgiveness and grace is enough for me. It’s not by might, it’s not my power , but by His spirit 🙌🙏✝👏💪

  9. We all have a Battle…A Battle for self control. Think for a moment…What is your Battle… My Battle is junk food..
Tell the truth and Shame the 😈 Devil..
But I’m working on it…one day at a time. We all will have something to deal with in our lifetime. ” You shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you Free (John8:32). As we know(save) Truth, the truth makes us Free from guilt, fear, anger…saved truth has a shaping…reconfiguring impact on a ❤ Heart. Only when you allow the truth of Scripture to be authority in your Life can you know whether it Works. I will study your teachings and follow your Footsteps LORD…Palm 119:15…Amen! 🙏 ✝ ☝ 💕

  10. For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26-All of Grace, I believe is God’s definitive reply: ” Be blessed my child…I accept you…I have adopted you into my Family.” You matter to God…So take the time to get to know your LORD and Savior…You may turn your back on God but God will never turn His back on you… He will forever remain faithful…from the beginning to the end. Thank God for Grace and Mercy…I’m a fifty rag sinner saved by Grace and Mercy and i fall short all the time against God and You…But I repent for my sins and ask God to renew me…restore me…because I’m a sinner saved by Grace and Mercy. It’s not about your Good Deeds…It’s about your ❤ Heart and how you Treat your neighbor/fellow man…So get Right with God and know in your ❤ Heart that at the end of your Life Story on 🌎 Earth…Earth is only our Temporary Home…So always repent for your sins and always have forgiveness in your ❤ heart, mind and soul…So that you will have eternal LIFE with God in Heaven.
